I like both the shape and the hook pointing up on the Charlie's Flybox version., Also, having the fishbelly on the bottom doesn't close the gape in the hook, which is a problem with my Fraidy Cutt, for instance. Flytyer is right about the wire armature. You can press the end of one of your tying tools inside the mylar tube until it has a shape you like, then tie it off. We used another hook to push it into shape when I first learned to tie this style.

This is one way but it's not really necessary to do the wire frame bit to the same extent.

I like the idea of the frame.

I've just tied the mylar in at the rear, cut, move to the front, start the thread, and before tying in at the front, created the tapered shape by gently pushing back on the mylar with my right hand, and pulling down on the mylar with my left hand. Once I have the shape I want, I pinch it with my left thumb and index finger near the front, and wrap and secure with my right. I don't know if it helps or not, but I apply a coating of head cement to the mylar to keep it from separating. The frame method looks easier, and probably keeps the mylar from separating better than the method I use.

At one time I used adhesive lead tape for forming the bodies because typically I was fishing very deep fairly fast moving water for Dollies. Now with lead not in my repetoire of materials I wonder if the re is a replacement out there.

You can pick up tungstun wrap from golf shops, or order it from golf shops... works about the same; a little more cost, a little better sink rate, and you can put your fingers in your mouth when you work with it...

It is very soft so I am thinking not, but I am going to check out GolfTown tomorrow and see what they have. Thanks!

I was given a sheet like that (so soft thread squeezes it), I was told it was from a golf shop... I thought it was more common, but I can't seem to find anything close online from golfing shops;

except this, with tungsten:

For mixing with epoxy heads...

And this tubing from a fly shop:

And lots of good Tungsten beads...

Let us know if you find a better wrap, I'll keep looking.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm liking the Charlie's Flybox method especially. I've been uncomfortable using lead to weight my bodies, and I'm wondering if anyone could advise me as to which alternative metal is preferred?

Two alternatives are tungsten and lead free wire.
