flyangler Posted October 22, 2007 Share Posted October 22, 2007 I like both the shape and the hook pointing up on the Charlie's Flybox version., Also, having the fishbelly on the bottom doesn't close the gape in the hook, which is a problem with my Fraidy Cutt, for instance. Flytyer is right about the wire armature. You can press the end of one of your tying tools inside the mylar tube until it has a shape you like, then tie it off. I've just tied the mylar in at the rear, cut, move to the front, start the thread, and before tying in at the front, created the tapered shape by gently pushing back on the mylar with my right hand, and pulling down on the mylar with my left hand. Once I have the shape I want, I pinch it with my left thumb and index finger near the front, and wrap and secure with my right. I don't know if it helps or not, but I apply a coating of head cement to the mylar to keep it from separating. You can pick up tungstun wrap from golf shops, or order it from golf shops... works about the same; a little more cost, a little better sink rate, and you can put your fingers in your mouth when you work with it...
