softhackle Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Thought I would share some pics of my first bonefishing trip to the beautiful Bahamas. As on most vacations, shaving is optional... Great trip, highly recommend. Let me know if you want info on what I did and how I did it. It was relatively reasonable and a DIY all day walk/wade arrangement. 1 Quote
reevesr1 Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Awesome! Pic 2 looks a bit more a billfish type of bonefish! Quote
softhackle Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 Hi Rick, it was actually a houndfish. They often will hangout with the bones and feed on the scraps the bones dig out and leave behind. I was fishing "nervous" water when this fella took my crab imitation. I also caught a sting ray which totally freaked me out....It was constantly whipping its tail at me as I was trying to release. As a result, I have to sacrifice my crab fly and cut the tippet...pretty cool anyways... Quote
SteveM Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Nice! Looks like you did alright for your first time; bet it was a blast... Quote
reevesr1 Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Caught a bunch of rays in my time. Actually, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone getting barbed handling them, though I'd imagine it happens. It's always from stepping on them. We wore ray guards below the knees and learned to shuffle our feet! Quote
softhackle Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 Just got back from cuba. Omg 36 inch 15 lb bonefish report and picks to come. Quote
ÜberFly Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Isn't that how Steve Irwin (the former crocodile hunter) died?! . Actually, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone getting barbed handling them, though I'd imagine it happens. It's always from stepping on them. Quote
reevesr1 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 He wasn't handling it (and by handling it, I mean removing a hook from it). Wasn't he diving with them and got barbed? Quote
