I am looking to get a GPS but I don't know where to start. I've heard that you need a external antenna (ex. Garmin GPSmap 62) if I want to use it in the back country but I want to hear your thoughts on this. Is there anything I should look out for?

I have a Garmin 60 CSx. It's been around for a while now, so I'm sure there is a newer version. Absolutely does NOT need an external antenna. I've never had it not be able to get a signal, and I've had it in some pretty deep bush, canyon sections, etc.

I have the same one, pretty popular with alot of people but they still replaced it with a newer version. I've lost the occasional signal but overall I've been pretty happy with the performance and couldn't imagine going into the backcountry without it.

The Garmin 60 CSx is one of the better GPS units on the market (best reviews, etc.), the replacement is not as good!

GPS city (or whatever it is called had them on sale last fall or matched what Costco.ca had them listed for)... SHould be a few new old stock still kicking around.
