In my humble opinion kits are not the way to go. You are better off buying individual pieces. It would of course depend on your budget. It 's a good idea to take a course or join the local fly tiers club. That way you can make a more intelligent decision on what to buy. Go over to my blog. I have an article on tying you may find interesting.

Hello, was wondering if someone could pass some info on as to what to buy as a beginner fly guy, should I look into a kit or buy pieces separately.

I have to agree....be willing to spend at least a good $170 for a Peak vise (at least, or better, $260 for a Griffin Mongoose)...the vises in the kits are serviceable, but hardly enjoyable to tie with. Plus, there are plenty of us on here that would be happy to hang out with you and tie, and even share a few materials, I am sure.
