nathanieljohnson Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 What exactly is the difference between Z-Lon and polypropylene. Quote
DonAndersen Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Z-lon is tri-lobal - poly is plastic. Tri-lobal reflects light. Think life Plastic - is well - plastic. Don Quote

DonAndersen Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 nathanielj, But clearly you don't see grasshopper. Peer @ a yellow braided rope - you see any sparkles off it. Don Quote
marcvansluys Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 What about the difference between Z-lon and S-lon? I bought S-lon because it was $5 cheaper. Maybe this is because S-lon doesn't sound as "extreme" as Z-lon... Quote

DonAndersen Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 vanSlays, S-lon is generally only available @ Walmart, the home of cheap over-seas crap. Whereas Z-lon is hand selected by highly trained Z-lonees who are covered by both WCB and UIC and brought to you in a slim nicely appointed plastic bag @ 3 times the cost. All clear now?? Don Quote
Gaffer Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I personly never heard of S-Lon. S-Lon is the Superfly version, I dont know if it is exactly the same as Z-lon. I think that Z-lon is more kinky than S-lon, antron etc. and has diffrerent characteristics when wet. Z-lon was manufactured by Dupont(?). When the stopped making it one company (blue ribbon flies?) bought it all and has been selling it off. The reason why it is so expensive is that there is a limited supply and it is getting more scarce. Z-lon is great for spinner wings as it repels water, where antron does not repel water making it sink. Andrew Quote
marcvansluys Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Aaaa... all is clear now. I'll stick with S-lon. It's probably the same stuff, and if it isn't, I'll certainly never know the difference. Quote
DonAndersen Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 vanSlays, And if your are looking for a source that doesn't involve trips to the fly shop, Z-lon was originally used as a braid filler material in boot laces in the late '70's. Can't recall who pulled the strand out and started to use them. Don Quote
