Only been living in Calgary for about 5 years now and havent done any fishing. I came from the Okanagan and used to fish daily. I have a couple of questions about the Bow.

I have been reading and a lot of people have been saying that the Bow is one of the better places to fish around Calgary. I also heard that fishing the Bow around the Hwy 24 bridge area is the best. Is it worth taking a drive out there this weekend and checking it out?

The Bow in that area seems to be open most of the year which I assume makes it a lot better then other places. Is there any smaller lakes south of Calgary that would be worth checking out at this time?

Im excited to get out there and fish, but Calgary area seems very limited before June.

Welcome to the forum!!!

Calgary is never limited to fishing opportunities, there is always open water somewhere. Are you talking HWY 24 bridge by Carseland? Some goods runs there and in town start at Fish Creek and fish your way up or down from any of the parking lots in the park.

I actually live in Somerset so im somewhat down the road. Any advice for a nice peaceful spot around the 22X area.

And yes the Hwy 24 bridge by Carseland. I havent been down there, but looking at the Satallite shot from google maps shows some pretty nice areas. Maybe on Sunday me and the fiance will take a drive out there and look around. Not to sure if its going to be busy. Growing up in the Okanagan you can go days fishing areas and never see any other fishermen out there.

Also thank you on the Welcome. Its been years since I fished and happy to get back into it. Been a desk jockey for a while now.

little FYI, not only is the bow a good place to fish around calgary, it is one the BEST places to fish on the entire planet. A very highly rated river system and arguably the best in the world.

if you are walk and wade, head down macleod trail, turn left at 194th ave all the way to the river.

also you can try the bow at the deerfoot trail bridge, park in between the two bridges, head north or south of that spot.

there are plenty of areas to fish the bow within and just south of calgary, good luck!
