You can use a stick pin and needles but they can be a hassle, cut off the eye of a hook and it will work. A few companies including Snowbee, Falkenberg, HMH and a few others put out a Tube Fly Tool that fits into your vice jaws. Not very expensive and far superior.

Yeah, I think those tube vise adapters sell anywhere between $20-$40. A bodkin or something is ok if you just want to see if you like tying on tubes, but a proper tube vise or adapter is much more convenient if you want to tie tubes with any regularity.

i like the cheapo attachment i pickup up! i dont use the needles with the ball on the end.. just the longer tapered one... works well for any tube imho!

the Snowbee one is great too. I do wish it would put more pressure on the tube to stop it from spinning under heavy lead but it works.

tip; add a couple of layers of thread to the needle to snug up the tube when you put it on.
