eatsleapfishrepeat Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Does anyone have any good Czech nymph patterns they would like to share? I've looked on google but they are all very similar. Quote
126barnes Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 From what I've seen, slim & heavy are a must, color and the addition of a colored bead for a hot spot are the variations. I do tie a 3 headed beaded nymph that I've seen on Danica (sp?) that could be classified as a czech nymph I spose...................lead body would be cheaper thou..........way cheaper and probably heavier. eatsleapfishrepeat Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 Thanks 126barnes I will definetly try that, have you ever tied nymphs using jig hooks? Quote
126barnes Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 I would suggest a curve hook a (1120, 2457 or 69S I think) and use colors to match the larva in your streams/rivers. These are simple effective flies, no need to try and improve them. Quote
headscan Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Are you talking about actual Czech nymph patterns or flies to use with Czech nymphing techniques? Most of my Czech nymphs are evil weevils without the tail and legs and flat lead wrapped underneath to give them weight. You want them heavy and with little drag so they get deep fast. I've used a chenille stonefly nymph with lots of flat lead underneath and a big tungsten bead with lots of success as well while Czech nymphing. Talk to John Bransfield, he's the local Czech nymphing expert. Quote
Guest 420FLYFISHIN Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 do you loss more on the bottom? Quote
eatsleapfishrepeat Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 Thanks for the advice and I'm using Czech nymph hooks that I ordered from siman fly shop in cz. Quote
headscan Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 do you loss more on the bottom? Yes. That's why I use a fast and easy tie like the chenille stone for my anchor fly. Quote
