bhurt Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Great idea, currently trying to figure out what to tie for the second contest, have a idea of what I am going to tie but there is one matrial that I have no clue what I am going to use it for.... Quote
Simpson Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Is it a requirement to use all the types of material provided? Of course using all would generally mean that you have been more creative, but is it a rule of the contest? Also a big thanks to Fish Tales, great idea! Quote
headscan Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 You have to use each of the materials in the envelope plus you can use one other material not counting glues and epoxy is what Nancy told me on Saturday. Quote
FishTales Posted December 16, 2009 Author Posted December 16, 2009 Here are the results from the first Mystery Fly Contest.... To recap the idea - Participants are provided with materials which they must incorporate into a finished fly. Some of each of the materials provided needs to be used. Tiers provide their own thread, epoxy/glue, and one additional material. We're encouraging creativity. Entries are judged independently by David, Terry, and Aaron. They do not know who tied each fly as the flies are tracked by number not name. Here is a picture of all the entries for the first mystery fly contest. All three judges chose "The Squid Bitch" tied by Chris D as the winner of the first round of the contest. Chris takes home a $50 Fish Tales Gift Certificate for his effort. We'll be posting step by step tying instructions for the Squid Bitch on our Feature Fly page. In the meantime if you want to see photos of some of the other entries click here. The winning fly... Deadline for the next Mystery Fly Contest is Sunday, December 19 at 4 p.m. More Mystery Fly contests to come early in the new year. Thanks to everyone who's participated to date.
