Fly Of The Month Contest

well it is that time of year and i would like too host a fly of the month contest! each month will be a specific fly patterns, bug, fish or something along those lines!

 

the winner will be voted in by all forum members! judges by cleaness of tye, creativity in th variation and fish catchin ability(hopefully)!!!!!

 

the winner will recieve a free one year subscription too FLYFUSION MAGAZINE and at the end of the tying season (april) we will vote on the top winners from each month for a bigger prize tbd!

 

what's required?

 

-picture of fly

-name of varient

-recipe

 

please post official entries on this page only! all other posts will be deleted!

 

this month we will start it off easy the theme is "WOOLY BUGGERS"!

yall will have too the end of the month too submit your entries!

tube fly rubber bugger!

 

hook-brass tube and cone

tail-brown marabou

body-peacock ice dub

hackle-silly leg rubber hackle

collar-olive pheasent rump

Hit the bench last night to whip up something to start this off. Nothing to crazy here just playing with two colors I like in buggers.

 

Woolly woven bugger.

 

Recipe

 

Thread: Red 6/0

Tail: Black and Olive Marabou

Body: Woven black and olive chenille

Hackle: Black and olive saddle

Rid: 4x mono

Gills / blood: Red saddle hackle

Flash: Pearl Flashabou

Field tested this afternoon, nothing to the net but felt a short strike..... I think :P

Sweet fly there wanny, since I have to tie some up for a trip tomorrow, I will post a photo of my killer wolly bugger aka: Leech (as I like to call them as that is how I fish them) when I get some tied up tonight.

Hook: TMC300 (weighted and Gold Cone Head)

Thread: 6/0 Olive

Tail: Dark Olive Marabou with Light Olive Flashbou

Body: Poly Glimmer Peacock Bronze

Rib: Gun Metal Blue Wire

Hackle: Strip of Olive Rabbit Zonker with a Black Zonker for the collar.

Excellent fly.

 

I love seeing flies that aren't super difficult to construct tied to absolute perfection; this is an excellent example of this.

Thanks, it is a pretty easy tie, I've shortened up the tail on my newest ones (they'll get field tested tomorrow) here's hoping it fishes well. Looking forward to seeing what other variations others come up with, and a big thanks to Maxwell for organizing this.
