  1. this is a great program but I wish they would do it somewhere we could teach them to C&R instead of bait a hook and bonk fish (allen bill pond). If it was somewhere I could put my heart into it I might be interested. As it stands I can't do it and I am sure I am not the only one feeling that way.

EDIT: this doesn't mean I don't support fully this kind of activity if it was going to be done in a manner displaying more of the ethics of fishing and respect for nature, etc. Maybe I have it all wrong, but to me it just sounds like trying to get people to catch fish from a stocked pond and take them home to eat. My fear is they will think that is the way it is everywhere, and end up being the same people on the banks of the Bow that we complain about now...

    I concure with Brian

  2. hi guys,

I recently moved to Edmonton from Vancouver, BC with my 2 kids and wife. Now that I am here to stay where to fish when everything is frozen?lol Is there an indoor fly casting rink? :D

Anything close to Edmonton that is not frozen? I know you can fish the bow river all year round. That is the only river I know of and been there before.

I like to fish creeks and rivers and practice C&R. :angel:smail:

Welcome to Alberta!! THere are a lot of streams and Rivers all through our great province including the Bow, Red Deer River, Staufer, Prairie creek, the Ram and that is to just name a few. If you ever want any inforamtion about the Red Deer river or any central Alberta stream just sen me an e-mail.

    Thanks Tony

  3. I have to disagree with this one. Having lost one oar on our current boat from setting them down for 2 seconds and a rock hitting it an throwing it out of the lock (thankfully there was a guy in a canoe ahead of us that caught it), I won't take that chance again. I like to rest the oars (or more correctly, my arms) when I'm not rowing and I think these are a necessity for us.

Love to hear why people don't like them though...I might be convinced to get something else....

Under the rowers seat you have a place to store a spare oar ... not inside the storage bin but underneath...I highly recommend that you get one incase of emergencies

There are pros and cons on a drift boat PRO: when you are anchored off the oars tuck to the side of the boat and keep the boat tracked and in place so the boat does not move and spook fish while dry flying. CON: I like to roll my wrist when rowing down the water and skim it so to speak in the skinny water like the Red Deer or the Elk River. Most of the rookie rowers prefer the oar locks because there is less room for error while rowing and while anchored...your choice I guess!

  5. Need to buy a pair of Oar Rights for a Hyde drift boat. Can't seem to find any place locally that sells them on the www....anyone know of any place? If not, I guess I'll order from Hyde. But rather just go pick a pair up if we can.

I have a NEW pair that I used once on my Hyde but I do not like them at all. I live in Red Deer if you are interested. I dont know the price I want forthem but I will check the Hyde website to see what the cost was.

  6. RDR dry fly is epic! those fish dont see the pressure that bow fish get.

I will agree with a portion of that BUT the RDR browns are way more finiky than those of the bow and on the Red Deer River it is the Skwala hatch that the Browns are looking for and not the winter stone unless you are talking about the Little RDR...lol

  7. I need your help in tracking down Tim ( reellife) as he was the winner of my float down the Red Deer River. I have spoken with him, however I wrote down his phone number wrong and we are planning to hit the Red Deer on Thursday. He can e-mail me or calll me on my cell 403-391-4236...Thanks Tony aka sanky

  8. Just wondering how the fishing is in the Little red, at Innisfail?? I will be visiting Drumheller and Innisfail on June 28, 29, 30th and wondering how the fishing is in the Red Deer river at Drumheller and the little red at Innisfail as well as the little lakes at Innisfail?. I live in Athabasca so I don't get down that way very often, and this is my first visit to this great board. We are used to catching Pike and Walleye up here in Athabasca, I was wondering if there is a good Brown Trout Hole close to Innisfail and or Drumheller??

there is some nice fishing just west out of the town of innisfail. just turn right after the bridge, drive down to the river and walk north until you get to the Island. Cross over to the Island and fish on the right hand side or the east side of the Island...have fun but do not attach the water as these trout are very very sly!

  9. Good day all! I do not post much on the site however I have been a member for some time. I guess I like to read more than I like to type...anyways I own my own Hyde drift boat and I would like to offer my river (Red Deer) my boat and my knowledge of the river to you in exchange for a float in your boat, your river and your knowledge. E-mail me for details and the best time that works for you. THe Red Deer River does not open until the long week-end in May.
