Happy birthday Pete!
-
Where is their new location?
Downtown on 8th Ave SW between 5th and 6th St. A few doors down from the Globe Cinema.
-
Don't see why you couldn't. Just remember to only cut back a bit at a time - you can always cut more later but can't get back what you've already cut.

Heh, pretty shaky ground coming from a bunch of people who like to poke sharp hooks through trout and drag them out of the water by it. I agree that in nature the trout would have more of a chance of escaping, but complaining to the SPCA about it might put an unwanted spotlight on what we all enjoy doing for recreation. Maybe we could call PETA on them as well...
(And before anyone goes ballistic on me, I've been opposed to Bass Pro's fish tank since day one)

I have a pair of Dr. Slick hemostats with the "quick release" thing on them. I found it's way easier and faster to just run my hand down the leader and pop the hook out. If the hook is set oddly and you can't do that then the quick release tool won't work either I'd think. Just one more piece of equipment you don't really need.

Swiped from Speypages because it's too cool not to share...

So would it be worth it to try the bow during runoff or am I better off elsewhere?
Whether or not it's worth it is subjective. The fish still need to eat so they'll take a fly, but the tactics are a little different. Get out and give it a shot and decide afterwards if you like it or not. Just keep in mind that the currents are strong, water clarity is low, and there can be some big debris floating down so be careful about wading.

Get front zip waders... It'll cost you a few hundred $'s, however
P
You'd still have to kick back to shore with those. Catheter?

Since Vision also makes lines like the Ace shooting heads don't they have recommendations on which of their lines are suitable for their rods?

Don't forget the SPF lip balm either. My dad golfs as much as I fish and had a bit of a scare a few years ago with a sore on his lip. Turned out to be nothing but now we both use lip balm every time we use sunscreen.

Funny you should mention an "inexpensive" version on a Fly Fishing website. If many of these guys could find a highly overpriced version from Patagonia or Simms, it would outsell the Safeway version 10 to 1.

But I can almost hear the complaints now "the entire campground was full with people who booked early on the internet! Jerks!"
Yup, then the complaints will be about people who have faster/better internet connections or the time to sit in front of the computer refreshing a web page until the booking page is live. I think the exact same arguments have been made in the past about concert tickets - people with time to line up at the box office for days beforehand and so on.

Heh, not sure if hair offers any actual UV protection. I just know that I became much more conscious of it after I started shaving my head. If you've ever sunburned your scalp you know it only takes once until you start taking precautions. I own more hats now than I ever did before.
Hmm, now that I think of it, I never sunburned my scalp until after I shaved my head, so maybe hair does give you some protection.

spf 60 (Umbrell) in the morning, long sleeves and a hat. I work outside, as well, so I don't mess around.
Yeah, the Ombreille(?) spf 60 stuff is what I use as well. They also have waterproof stuff and it doesn't smell like some of the other stuff out there so doesn't attract bees and other bugs as much. The other trick is to remember to reapply every so often throughout the day. Simms, Patagonia, Columbia, and probably others make lots of UPF clothing too. Also, if you're bald remember to throw some sunscreen on your head before you put your hat on if it doesn't have UPF.

Just like Max and cheeler said, something in the 5-7 weight range if you want to swing streamers with sink tips. I use a 12' 6 wt on the Bow and love it but it might get too heavy for high sticking though. For that I'd go with either a long single hander or a switch. Now the next challenge will be to find a rod and line combination that suits you the most.

Excellent article. Sadly, I think even most Canadians are unaware of our contributions not only in both world wars but also peacekeeping efforts in Crete and Rwanda among others.

I was a bit surprised that fish tales wouldn't price match some other stores in town on the rod. However I understand that the buying power of the small shops can't compare with the big box retailers. The price difference wan't huge and I wanted to support the local shop.
What Fish Tales couldn't match in price they will more than make up for in customer service.

The methods employed (bait, snelled hook, and I assume a barb?) are just appaling.
Yeah, practice what you preach - F&W employees should be setting an example for others. I would've loved to call RAP on them if I was there.
-
Be safe, but don't be scared.
Yeah, definitely. Even though the raw numbers are not that high, don't become one of the statistics. Just practice some common sense before wading or boating. Those that you leave behind won't be comforted by the fact that you were one of only a few anglers who drown each year.

Any word on whether it's going to be Saturday or Sunday? Forecast looks good for both days.

By the way isnt it zero catch and keep until July on ALL parts of the Bow? I havent picked up this years regs booklet so I may be wrong but I remember it being 1 or 2 fish under 35cm from JUNE 16 - OCT 31 the rest of the year trout limit zero. Am I wrong?
From the regs:
from the Western Headworks Diversion (W.H.D.) Weir downstream to the Carseland Weir(includes 500 m of the Highwood River) but excluding all waters in the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary (see Inglewood Bird Sanctuary) – Open all year.
Apr. 1 to Mar. 31 – Trout limit 1 under 35 cm; All Trout over 35 cm must be released; Mountain Whitefish limit 5 over 30 cm; Bait Ban.
Still doesn't make what they did right.

Something to think about before heading out on the long weekend. Fishing: the cause of more drowning deaths

I'd also set up search notifications on ebay for "loop blue", "blueline", "megaloop", and "loop opti" or something along those lines. It'll email you regularly with new listings that contain those words.

I really like the C+F boxes with foam slits.
