  1. I would be availbable to haul bags of garbage to take out points with my jet as well. Weekend works best for me. I think this is a great plan and one that I would support wholeheartedly. We could bring a bbq down and enjoy a hot dog or something on the grill, and make it a day of getting to know new friends and doing something positive and productive for the river. Count me in,

  2. Hi I have an aluminum boat and want to ensure my fly rods don't get bounced around during travel. Would like to secure them alongisde the inside wall of the boat. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to use, what works best, and where to buy or purchase them? Would need to strap and secure about 4 -5 rods (maximum).

    Thanks guys

  3. are these cabins and the bow river resort not the same place? i'm a few hours away from calgary so i cant investigate any further but if anyone can shed some light on this mystery it would be greatly appreciated.

They are completely different. The Bow River Resort is / was the cabins. My bad in confusing you. The North Bow Lodge has accomocdations and food all under one roof and each have their own bedroom with shower and bathrooms. Nice place. The Bow River resort WAS the ones with the cabins that have the blue roofs on the cabins themselves.

  4. I stayed there quite a few years ago. It went t's up the year after. The guy I talked to who owned it, also had a big house overlooking the cabins at the top overlooking the cabins. The road down was quite steep but once down there, it was a very nice spot. It looked promising, but i think he had a hard time with getting the place insured as it was on the flood plain ( i think). I have tried in the past, several times to call them but your right the number is out of service. I past it in the boat last weekend and it looks like someone is working down there, not sure what is happening though. The cabins were very nice when we did stay there. Nice pine beds, very rustic but gorgeous inside and very warm and cozy. Had a small wood stove but if i remember right, they did not have any electricity in the cabins.

Might be worth a drive to speak to the guy who owns the house at the top of the hill, and see what is happening. Might do that myself i get a chance this weekend. Will let you know if i find anything out. It would be nice to see it available again, I liked it.

Have also stayed at the Bow River Resort and was impressed with great food and service! Wouldnt hesitate to stay there again either.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Question: Are Bow river trout leader shy? Specifically, what is everybodys take on dry fly fishing and length of leader that serves best. Myself, i have used anything from 7 feet (my standard being 9 ft leader up to 15 feet) with the size of the fly matching the leader size (3x for size 12, 4x for 16,etc). I am interested to know what other fisherpersons opinion are as to what works best. I am speaking specifically on the Bow river fishing with dries. I know the bigger the fly then possibly the shorter the leader such as a hopper dropper rig, but I am talking about fishing dries only, and river only, not lakes. Take into account that i am talking a universal leader length that could be used all day. Do you feel or think that the Bows and Browns are leader shy? If so, how shy?

    Any feedback is appreicated! :troutpunch:

  6. I just got one for my 52 bday! One thing you need to know before using it, is that it does not come with an SD card. Do NOT try to use one from your camera or your pictures will be lost! Make sure to read the destructions first as it gives you lot of guidance on what type of card to purchase, etc. It does make fish loook big underwater but it is really an awesome addition for your recording pleasures! Enjoy! ;mornCoffee:

Just to let everyone know, we are switching the charity to a group called Soldier On, website here. PHW is still in the process of getting the charitable contribution number set up, and will likely not have it ready in time for the auction. PHW is affiliated with Soldier On, so they suggested we switch to them. Soldier on does have a fishing program, and they are checking to see if we could target the money to that program. Personally, I would be perfectly ok with just donating to Soldier On directly and letting them decide how to distribute the money. 100% of the donated money will go to disabled vets. Can't get better than that!

    Hi Rickr

Please let me know if I can assist with anything. He he I have a jet Zodiac that could be used for an outing on the Bow as a gift?

  9. Good comments from both sides on this issue. I have recently moved from a driftboat to a Zodiac with a jet. The reason - i have bursitis and cannot row anymore and if i do, i end up with Popeye elbow. My boat is a little under 14 feet and I DO slow down for angers as I pass them. My overall take on this, is the same as everyones (it"s the attitude of the operator of any water craft) that makes a good boater or an Ass#$.

I also think that there should be some sort of a size limit as to the motor limits for the bow, as well as length restrictions. I have fished many times below the Carseland bridge, and was very amused a few years ago, when we came back to find an 18 foot Larson with a 75 horse propellor stuck in the river and buried below the prop. Don't know how he faired out,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Anyhoo, my 2 cents worth. I will always do my best to respect all fishers whether they are in a boat or wading from shore when I am in my Zodiac (which is NOT RED BTW <--poke--< )!

    Have a safe outing!

  10. :) I love to cook, especially outdoors. Food just seems to taste Sooooo good when you are outside. My question is: what are some of the best outdoor recipes (tried and true) that everyone likes to cook or eat while camping? I am sure some would say hot dogs and hamburgers (keep it easy) which is ok, but what about all of the backyard chefs out there? Do you like to grill, slow cook, deep fry, pan fry, your favourite meals? What do you cook that everyone loves while camping? Me? I use a Cobb a lot of the time as it is easy to place a few coals in the bottom, get it stoked up, and then do a mustard honey chicken. Reciped is easy:

Either chicken pieces or thighs (skin on)

Place in a sealed ziploc bag and add:

    1 cup Frenchs mustard

    1/2 cup honey

seasonings (i like poultry seasong, montreal steak spice, etc)

Mush up the chicken in the bag and coat thoroughly

Let marinade for any from 30 mins - overnight (longer the better)

grill on both sides until skin is nice and crisp on all sides

wrap in foil and continue to cook until cooked thoroughly (no pink)

remove from grill and let stand for 5 minutes covered in foil

    serve and enjoy!

    Cheers!

  11. <--poke--< WOW! Cool thread! My nickname is Bear and YES I do S*^t in the woods :ridemcowboy: . Grinr - wow welcome to the forum - where have you been? Hunting I suppose! Your insight, knowledge, and all round great attitude, respect, dignity, and appreciation for the outdoors and other forum members is recognized as it is! By the sounds Pacres:el:toro:bow: of things, you are far more experienced than any of us here (sorry Tacobreath, Hawg).

Seriously Grinr, did you jump on this board to stir things up or have you been chasin bear and away in the bush for some time???

Relax, we are all here to learn, read other peoples perspectives, meet new friends, and take a little time away form the real world and share something we ALL love - fishing! If your willing to share your stories and views - great, but scrapping :yoda: with everyone you come across on this board, and calling them down will lose you much respect with us other folks who are here to just enjoy the sight!

    This WAS great thread!

    Cheers!~

  12. I love this kind of thread. Back to the young man that asked a question based on his supply and likely allocated funds for fly fishing. I hope the point of what everyone has written is taken as "Give it a go" and you receive it in an encouraging manner. There is a ton of info and knowledge available, but the bottom line is that if you are given something or can only afford `x`, then use it and do your best with it. As a kid, I used what was available - read - whatever my uncle didn`t lock away for safe keeping was fair game. The combination of lines and rods didn`t matter - getting out fishing did. Some set ups are easier to cast than others in some circumstances, but you can cast pretty much anything, any combo of gear. Sometimes it isn`t pretty. I remember using a floating line on a willow branch on the rainbows in BC`s Clearwater R, we arrived at the camp site but the fishing stuff was all in the other car that would arrive the next day. We had a few spare guides and tip eye, as well as the fly tying kit, so we whittled up a rod. What line is a thumb thick willow branch rated for... regardless, we caught a few fish. But this was back in the 70s and we didn`t know we weren`t supposed to under or over line the rod. Bottom line - give it a go, be thankful for what you have, and get the most enjoyment from what you have. Remember, that $900 Helios rod isn`t going to make you cast that much better or enjoy the fishing any more or less. I`d put my ability to enjoy fly fishing with a $49 Mitchell fly rod combo - circa 1970s - against the $3K worth of gear I walk around with today.

    Cheers

    Times x 2 agree whoeheartedly!
