  1. I have a 9'6 Sage one 5wt, and it sure does a better job casting double streamer rigs, with a streamer tip line then any Loop, or Loomis 7wt i've owned. Jayhad can attest to that. Im pretty sure it could do anything. It nymphs beautifully with an indicator line and with a rio gold i bet it drops dry flies into a teacup.
  2. The browns took a major hit with the sapro outbreak followed by the flood. They need every chance we can give the few that are left. Regardless whether the science says catch and release angling's impact is negligible, the fish need some uninterrupted reproductive cycles. However, i agree, it certainly is not the only thing plaguing the browns. Dont think you could find a person in the community with real experience that would say the brown trout fishing/populations have been prolific since the fall of 2013, and the 2014 flood. It is a step in the right direction.
  3. I'd bet we're going to see a very good bow river in the next 3-4 years. Might make it worth fishing below the harveys passage.
  4. Everything i've ever heard has been that they are quite delicious. I think the ones that would taste the best are the reservoir fish in BC. Feeding on miniature sockeye all their lives... they must be damn tasty.
  5. 30lb fireline. Better to have the hook in the back.
  6. I go 2/0 b10s-1/0 b10s. Or another good alternative is the daichii 2720 2/0-1/0, those things do not miss. You will be shocked at how many fish you will miss with narrow gapes. Its actually bloody frustrating. Its not like the bow is fishery where you're doing considerable damage with mortality. If you're fishing big flies you're typically looking for big trout, i dont think you're going to be doubting the decision to use wide gape hooks when mr 2'+ long bruinsie comes your way. But you might be cursing yourself when he tries to eat your streamer 3 or 4 times and you dont even prick him. Plus you'll keep most of the runty baby trout < 18" off your flies too which is nice.
  7. Fresh griz tracks in the mud all the way back to the truck right behind footprints, after a guy in our group got split from us, and headed back to the truck on his own... He didnt have the keys. Never saw the griz. Sure followed my buddy awfully close though.
  8. Singing big fish bandits while catching trophy 16" adams river rainbows.
  9. Jayhad likes to trash talk all the waters he's never fished. Cause he only fishes, the best waters. Sucks that those are long gone though since the flood. Sucks to suck bud.
  10. Funny, i had two brand new sets of oars arrive at my door step after only one simple email saying my first set broke. I'll take the performance of the scadden and his disorganization, over the water master fad, just because faceless and "humble" get them for free and promote the heck out of them, along with everyone else who follows suit on instagram and facebook because its "cool", doesn't mean they're the best performing boat on the market. Not even close. I'd take the outcast/fishcat boats over a water master in a heart beat. Have fun sitting on plywood, dont care how sturdy and stable your boat is, sitting on on plywood all day sucks the big one. I can stand up in my scadden assault x, and did so while coho fishing beaches this summer. Along with more then a couple floats with others with watermasters and outcast frameless, I row circles around them. I'll tell you that i did go looking on water master for accessories for my scadden, which is a total rip off. 24USD Dollars for a cargo net, and then 40 bucks shipped to canada... Is that a joke? "Oh well we'll just bring it to the show in jan/february... save you the money" Seriously? 6 Months to get a 24 dollar cargo net? Bought an Atv Cargo net through cabelas. Easy, done, 8 dollars TOTAL.
  11. If you like rowing boats without rockers, and sitting on plywood all day. Then the water master is for you! I have also been in the presence while an fishcat scout was used. The foot bar is a major annoyance with that thing, the entire boat leaves much to be desired. There isn't much of a difference between it and the stealth approach. Look into an assault X by dave scadden, or his outlaw escape. Typically dave is willing to haggle, and he has wicked deals come christmas time, i got my scadden for half of what those jokers at sevylor waterfishmaster wanted. If you can get a good deal with dave, and then upgrade his oars ON YOUR OWN, buy yourself a cargo net and add drings and rod holders where you'd like with stabond glue, or what i've done is taken a good quality marine duffle tied down to the extra d rings i've added in my cargo area, and you've got a killer float boat. However, dave is very disorganized, if you're not continually on him about shipping your boat, that is where all the nightmares will ensue.... A quick google search will show you some forums and people with some negative experiences with him. But they all get their boats, just takes some time sometimes.
  12. Seems like the admins have had their cheerios pee'd in too many times.
  13. I've always thought taking the bigger fish out of the population makes zero sense. Unless you're looking at harvesting 1 meal for your family, or looking to hang a trophy (which thanks to management all these years, we have no trophy fish, except for catch and release waters. Huh interesting). We live in wackem stackem alberta. Unfortunately things will not change until our demographics change, I've heard too many times "We keep everything we catch because its a put and take lake!". Our province is a total gongshow as far as fishing regulations go outside of sensitive populations. That being said, we have to have some sort of equality in our fisheries. Both catch and keep and catch and release. I'm a firm believer in the One under a certain size as that has proven itself many times in fisheries around canada. But at the same time, i know there is the pull to supply food for yourself or stuff a big fish and hang it on your wall. That being said, I think something along the lines of 1 under a certain size limit. Or perhaps on our overstocked waters that are put in place to specifically alleviate pressure around the area, reduced stocking rates are needed and 3 of whatever size. Because its been told many times our SRD and F&W is are the most underfunded departments in all of canada. Why stocking 10000 fish into a tiny lake just to get wacked makes sense to anyone here.... i dont understand. It costs more $ to stock more fish. Plain and simple. 5 limit/person is a lot of fish, and 5 6" stockers is not a meal, which is then what urges people to take more, or bring family members out to increase limits... this all kind of spins in circles. When all said and done, i believe that if a person should want to kill that 40"+ pike, or 12lb walleye, or 10lb rainbow or whatever to hang on a wall. He/she should have to pay a special fee/tag to be able to keep a fish like that. Though not an unlimited amount of tags, that would be useless. That way, money can be raised to better control regulations, perhaps hire another CO officer for the area, or studies, or even back into the stocking program. Another cool idea i would like to see which i've heard of a few times, is two types of licenses, Not classified waters tags necessarily, but Quality License and a Put and take license and perhaps even a Rocky mountain license. Put and take being the more expensive of the 2/3. Create some quality stocked fisheries throughout the province in locations accessible to many, studies done to indeed make these lakes quality. Places that are patrolled on a regular basis for people breaking rules. While put and take fisheries being more expensive (perhaps MUCH MORE expensive) to fund the stocking of 250000 trout into a lake for everyone to keep 5 of should they please. Regardless. This guy happily pays the BC freshwater 80 dollar license, and the saskatchewan 60 dollar license for the year. Alberta's fishing license is pretty much a jar of pennies. I spend the extra money in gas to drive 45 minutes over the border. Just to have quality fishing. I try my best not to spend money on fishing in Alberta at least in our stocked fisheries because to me its just not worth it.
  14. Nope, you're right uber. Dead drifting high sticking/a big hunk of meat doesn't work for bull trout. They definitely only chase and attack their meals to get their feed. They always pass up easy meals, and would rather expend the time and energy chasing around smaller fish. I wouldnt know. Carry on. In regards to rod selection, never tried switch rods, but as far as most of my bull trout flies go, they're all half chickens and lining a switch properly to have the ability to cast a fly like that, would be a real pain. You'd be looking at 12wt switch, and an 800-1000 grain head, at least in my case. I fish a 9'6 7wt, and chuck those flies with a powerfly taper. Its not pretty, but once you've entered the realm of triple articulated 6-10" flies, you can't really make it "look" pretty. Some might even say its not fly fishing. I just know that I dont lose any sleep over it. But my vote would be there is no need for a switch rod, and overhand casting a switch rod is not pleasant.
  15. fishin buddy 140c or 120, comes with the side scan feature which works unbelievably well. Outcast makes a strap/mount to use with a pontoon or float tube.
  16. Similar to green drake, I own the XL low profile, outfitted with anchor systems on the front and back, along with a motor mount, and powered by a minnkota 80lb thrust. I also own a 10' Harbercraft fly fisher. While i wouldn't recommend the drift boat for one man, i would take the drift boat for multiple people any day. I have fished out of 1236 jons with 2 people and hate how unstable they are. Then you're next boat is the 1436-1442 and then you likely have to trailer it... yadda yadda yadda, drift boat always wins IMO. That being said, for one man boats, i like a short pram in the bed of a truck. More then one person, i'll take a properly rigged low profile drift boat any day. Keep in mind... welded vs riveted... towing a riveted boat on a trailer down a gravel road is a good way to ruin your boat. Lots of leaks in no time. Riveted is way lighter, and perfect for small boats to drop in the bed of a pickup, or roof rack, but not so good for towing down bumpy roads. Welded will be heavier and more expensive and hard to handle by yourself, unless its on a trailer. But far less prone to leaks and even usable in rivers... provided it is set up correctly.
