I encourage you to read their position statement for yourself and make your own decision:

    https://tucanada.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/TUC-statement-on-NCNT-Jan-2018.pdf

I used to be a board member with a local chapter and stepped down because of policies like this and I will no longer donate my time/money. TUC is not an angler's group, they're a cold water conservancy org whose membership mostly happens to be anglers.

I read the position last night, and wasn't entirely surprised by it.  I've never been under the impression that TUC is an angler's group (likewise Ducks Unlimited isn't a bird hunters group).  Their mission statement is pretty clear on that. I think TUC are resigned to the closure decision, and they don't intend to expend energy fighting against something that appears to be pretty clearly written in stone at this stage.  The statement is, at least, "conditional support" and does outline several of the very same concerns and confounding factors that those opposed to the closure have expressed.  I might not entirely agree with their stated support of the closure, but it is pretty hard to disagree with much of the land use/habitat, angling, and enforcement pieces they go on to describe.

I will look at the survey when I have more time, and participate. I'll be sure to comment on mandating a classified system for non residents and increase enforcement (and limiting/eliminating random camping, OHV an resource development use for that area - as that is how I feel, others feel differently, I realize), if there is an opportunity to do so...

There is a space for free narrative, though not sure how much you can write in there.  I wrote a good sized paragraph of about 6 sentences, complete with many parenthetical commas, and it submitted.

  3. On the weekend, my wife comes to me and says her car is making a knocking sound.  She's worried something is wrong with her brakes and wants me to take it for a spin.  I oblidge, and sure enough I hear the knock too... only happens when braking fairly hard, but doesn't sound like it is related to the brakes per se.  I tell her it sounds like something is loose underneath, but when I crawled under I couldn't see anything with my untrained eye.  I tell her to take it in to Toyota for them to have a look, and she does.  For the record, it took a second mechanic to diagnose it... their laughter was payment rendered.

  4. Just heard there was damage to Allison with the fire that is happening in the Crowsnest Pass.  The media report is somewhat vague, mentioning that "the local fish hatchery has been damaged".  I had no idea the fire was that far north, as I thought it originated in the Sentinel Industrial area.  Anyone else have any more definitive info than this?  If it is shut down too things could get very interesting for the stocking program, in the South especially.

  5. I meant to ask some questions about the impact of whirling on the stocking program when I was at Allison Creek just before the Labour Day weekend, but unfortunately no one was around at the time.  They would have likely had some info too on the impact of the Bow refurbishment by that time, so unfortunate I wasn't a little more persistent in trying to find someone in the know.  Looking at the October stocking report, they seem to be going great guns this fall; makes sense why now. Perhaps that's why we got some cutties in one of our local ponds for the first time I'm aware of.

  6. Tried it all, and nothing seemed to reveal where my slow leak is happening.  I had previously repaired what looked like a flaw in the material, so put on ample Aquaseal over that area again.  On Monday I did remain dry, but wasn't often in very deep water so not entirely sure if that solved it.  I may have to wait until spring and deeper water to see if it really worked.

  7. In the midst of his pee jokes, Uber suggested I try the alcohol method too, though the question about them not being real Gore-Tex did come up.  I will try it out and see if it works... worth a shot.  Borrowing a leaf blower is my backup plan (who needs a leaf blower in Lethbridge... the leaves all end up in Coaldale eventually anyway).

  8. I know several speak poorly of the recent batch of Korkers on here, but I did notice that the soles were on 40% off at Wholesale today... they had one of their boots on for 40% off as well, but very limited sizing available in Lethbridge.  Rest of their boots are now 20% off (including Hodgmans I presume).

  9. Does anyone know what the platform used before was?  Currently says Invision down below, so not sure if that was the case before.  I actually prefer the new format, cause it works... whereas for the week or so leading up to the switchover, I wasn't able to access it at all from my home computer or tablet for some reason.  The one thing I do like about the new forum is that it seems to reload the page when you pop back from a thread to the forum index page, showing what is read and isn't read; on the previous iteration you had to manually refetch the index page to see that.  I can't remember exactly what the old, old version was like (before it became fly fusion) but this one seems closer to it.  If memory serves you all complained about that new format when it switched over ;)

Seems like sound advise to me . I'll stud em and use other boots when I need to boat.

may visit Calgary fasteners and see what they have. Say some old articles on Spey pages about different studs guys have gone with. I may just raid the bolt bin , grind heads down a bit and go with that.

    thanks all.

If you aren't opposed to buying something online, I'd recommend the Kold Kutters; they can be had on eBay for $20 US for a pack of 250.

  11. Lots of great tips here, and a couple of cool things for me to try.  I'm definitely putting some fish down by my presence in the water (crunching gravel, compression waves), but the rising will start again soon after I'm "in place" for a few minutes.  Trying to use the Josh Nugent tip of not casting to a fish until you see it feed 3X (super testing of my patience!!).

With downstream casting, do you pretty much have one shot at it? I'd guess the fish could be pretty easily spooked on the pickup, both by my occasional bad rip of the fly off the water as well as by the simple movement of fly line shortly in front of them.

  12. I recently bought some Redington Prowlers.  I did a couple of outings without any studs, and found them also pretty lacking in traction, so loaded them up with Kold Kutters.  I'm not sure you will find studs that won't mark to any extent.  The in&out of boats thing sounds like a challenge if you are doing any combination of wading/floating... is that your scenario?  I have a second set of cheapo non-studded boots I use for my float tube (which should last forever), but that might not be the solution for you.
