  8. I thought that Fly Fusion was not a "Destination" type of mag..

Is this a slide to the Can_dian F_y F_shier type of magazine, report about place that can ill afford the publicity and damn the environment of the place.

Or will it be done in the Fly Fusion style , still with concern for the location and the realities of the resource which is the fish, I do not care how many guides get paid or how well a Lodge does in a year, it is the reason that we all fish that is the only concern and that is the fish.

I voted left, due to when a place gets loved to death that is what happens to the fishing and location..

Yesterday I picked up a large Tim Hortons cup 75 Km from the closest Timmies and it was on a spot that the land owner asked people not to park..

    Hi Flyfishfairwx,

No sliding - promise. We conducted a reader study a couple years back and the main message we got back with regards to the editorial content was fairly clear - Don't Change A Thing. With that in mind the other message that we got was "Can you give us just a little bit of destination?". So we thought the best way to handle this without completely vacating our core editorial values would be to produce a fifth issue which focus would be 100% destination based - BUT done our way. Derek (Editor) has written an editorial for Stream Lines in the Special Issue that will cover all of what we are doing with this issue.

Not to worry your regular issues will be as reliable as always.

    Cheers!

    Chris

    Hi Everyone,

Remember the TROUT cover debate we had a few issues ago?

WE NEED YOUR HELP AGAIN. Except for this time we are going to let YOU GUYS choose which cover we should go with for our 2010 "Destinations" Special Issue. This issue is due out on stands on October 18th so we need you to tell us this week which cover you prefer. Is it the one on the left, which has a little more character, or is it the one on the right, which has a travel feel to it...

    YOUR CALL...

    - CB on behalf of the Fly Fusion Team

  10. Repeat after me: "My wife is ALWAYS RIGHT. Repeat as necessary. :)

    You're most welcome, Chris !

    j

Very true. My version of that goes something like this:

"My wife is ALWAYS RIGHT, but just in case I forget - own a very nice couch"

A good friend of mine gave me some great advice a little while ago. He said that its okay to disagree with your wife. Just do it sparingly so that you have a shot at winning every once in a while.

    Chris

  11. C'mon Chris, the whole debate is about whether or not it's justifiable to dump people off in the middle of the ocean. More specifically it's about vigilante justice by western nations towards African nations (a complex but inherently racist issue).

    This isn't about Fly Fishing.

Look inside the opinions; they're racist and ignorant with little understanding of the issue. The only thing being discussed is why it's ok to dump people in the middle of the ocean.

If I offended you, too bad. I find it offensive to have a discussion about justified vigilantism towards people from one of the most war-torn poorest nations in the world - by people sitting at desks from one of the richest places in the world. To put it in perspective - most people in Somalia have experienced an immediate family member murdered, have no healthcare, and are malnourished.

Sorry, but the discussion is in poor taste and racist.

    rac·ism   /ˈreɪsɪzəm/ Show Spelled[rey-siz-uhm] Show IPA

    –noun

    1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

Re-read my previous post. I chose not to engage you on the issue. I called you out on how you chose to deliver your message.

I have been to Africa's east coast and have seen first hand some of the problems. You seem educated on many of the topics where you choose to post. I would encourage you to deliver messages regarding important topics like this one in a credible way free of counter-productive filler.

    c:

  12. "oh yah, they're African so it's ok to dump them at sea; from the white Alberta western tycoon perspective."

Who are you (aside from out to lunch)...

This board is made up of thousands of different kinds of people who all have at least two things in common. The first is that we are looking to be a part of a unique fly fishing community where we can hang our hat and the second would be that not one of us would agree with your above quote. I don't know everyone on this board, but I think that is a safe bet.

I find you to be offensive in the worst possible way. That is of course just my opinion. If you take issue with that you are welcome to call our office: 403.249.5975.

    Best,

    Chris Bird

CALGARY – July 15, 2009 – Bird Marketing Group (BMG)*, the leading Canadian authority on fly fishing in North America has named Jennifer Bird Publisher of its print division. In this role, Jennifer will oversee all operational aspects of Fly Fusion magazine as well as Fusion Books, the companies developing book publishing division. She will report directly to the BMG board.

“We are elated to have Jennifer in this position”, says company President Chris Bird, “She has played a key role in keeping our companies strong from the outset. Her experience in the financial sector combined with her relationships within the publishing industry will prove very beneficial for our organization. We welcome her talent and initiative as she helps us build our business in the North American marketplace.”

“Our first order of business will be prepping to unveil a new look for the magazine at this year’s Fly Fishing Retailer,” says Jennifer Bird. “We have been working on these changes for months and are looking forward to receiving feedback from our readers and industry friends. In addition to the new look we have also introduced significant changes to Fly Fusion’s distribution which we will be going into more detail on in an upcoming news release. 15. Hi Colin,

Thanks for taking time to fill us in on Tourism Alberta. Looking forward to seeing the new season. Hope all is well.

    Cheers!

    Hi,

Phil Rowley told me about your post, thought I should reply. Jim is a wonderful angler, instructor and great person. We would love to have him on our series this season. Unfortunately, Alberta Tourism denied our request for funding assistance to tape in your beautiful province. This is tragic as last season we shot five shows there (Phil did them and they will begin airing on WFN at the end of June). Right now we are scheduled to shoot shows right across Canada, from Labrador to BC. However, until tourism can assist us, then we won't be able to shoot in Alberta or do something with Jim. We have our fingers crossed that something will happen in the future. Having Jim on our series would be an incredible honour. Iron Blue is still my all-time favourite fly fishing series.

Enjoy the fishing season this year.

    Cheers

    Colin
