Hey FFC! Hope each of you are enjoying the first bit of winter. We are excited to announce that there will be a new front end to Fly Fish Calgary! We have been working on this for a little while and truly hope that each of you enjoy the new website experience. Within the new website we have integrated video and some free perks for being the awesome members that you are. The forum itself will not change with the exception that you will have the ongoing option to choose between a Fly Fish Calgary forum skin and a Fly Fusion Forum skin. We will be migrating the forum database at some point over the next week to its new home and while we don't anticipate any technical issues we do ask for your patience in the event that the site becomes unavailable at any point during the transfer. Once the transfer has been completed flyfishcalgary.com will take you to the front end of the new website where you will be able to enter login credentials and access the forums. Hey FFC - The following note was sent out today. Information about the media awards mentioned below will be posted as a separate topic in the forums. Look forward to answering any questions that you may have. ___________________ In January of 2001 Calgarians were introduced to the Western Canadian Fly Fishing Exposition. Over the last 14 years it has grown to represent all of western Canada and throughout that time so many great friendships have been formed. The show floor is always packed full of folks who have become part of our extended family. The exposition has become the annual "watering hole" for the western Canadian fly-fishing community, is well respected by industry and is a must attend event on the consumer show circuit. For the Bird family, this event has afforded the opportunity to remain close, which for us, is so much more valuable than any financial measurement. So many good things have come from the exposition, including Fly Fusion Magazine, the International Fly Fishing Film Festival, Fly Fusion Television and a new project in development. We can’t begin to express just how grateful we are to you, the exhibitors, for your loyal dedication. For the 2017 trade show season we have decided to not produce the exposition. Instead, we will produce a new awards event in Calgary designed to reward those individuals and companies who are vested in the pursuit of well-done fly-fishing media. We are also going to take the opportunity to join the show circuit (The Fly Fishing Shows) and visit a number of different cities throughout North America with the magazine - that is long overdue! We believe wholeheartedly in the value of connecting with the fly-fishing community face-to-face. We are not closing the doors on the exposition and hold the ongoing option, desire and capacity to produce the Western Canadian Fly Fishing Exposition at any time in partnership with the will and needs of the fly-fishing community. Get your best patterns tied up and send them in to the address listed below before January 10, 2014 to participate! We are encouraging entries from all four corners of the globe - so spread the word. Entries will be displayed at the 2014 Western Canadian Fly Fishing Exposition - January 24-26, 2014. Aside from bragging rights, the lucky winners will receive subscriptions, prize packs and have their winning patterns published in Fly Fusion Magazine! Also dry flies like attractors, and imitations of land-living insects (Terrestrials) or floating, insect-looking bugs. Hook:single hook. NYMPH: A fly is a nymph until it has left its nymphal skin. Water Beetles, Water Spiders, Freshwater Prawns, and other insect-looking under water bugs living in freshwater belongs in this category. Hook: single hook. WET FLY: Traditional or new wetflies with quill, hackle or synthetic wings. Salmon flies are not accepted in this category. Hook: single hook. STREAMER: A streamer is a fly that imitates a fish. Streamers are often tied on a long-shanked hooks or an ordinary wetfly hook with a long wing. The wing or other part of a streamer is usually tied of hair, feathers, zonker-strips or different kinds of synthetics. REALISTIC: In this category imitating level will be the most important criterion YOUTH: Any pattern category can be submitted by tiers age 16 or under. Please refer to individual category descriptions for specific tying expectations. DETAILS OF PARTICIPATION Each tier can choose to compete in any or all of the categories with one fly submission per category. January 24-26, 2014: All patterns will be on display at the Western Canadian Fly Fishing Exposition. Attendees will vote throughout weekend and overall crowd favourite will be selected once votes have been tallied.
