  1. I knew there had to be an exact height! Thanks birchy! LOL
  2. I was out backpacking up Cat Creek this weekend and we stopped at Cat Creek falls for a break. While we were there I took some underwater photos and sure enough there were some bulls at the bottom of the falls. I had my rod but the rest of the crew wanted to keep hiking so I figured that at least I knew there were fish in the creek. We ended up camping upstream of the falls a ways, and I tried fishing quite a bit, but didn't even see any signs of a fish above the falls. I took dozens of underwater photos and they didn't show any fish whatsoever (not even minnows). I am wondering if perhaps the Cat Creek falls were too high for fish to swim up? Does anyone know what the general limit is? Do waterfalls only really come into play on smaller creeks, as there are obviously fish both above and below many other falls on rivers (ie. the sheep and the elbow)?
  3. Was fishing with my sister the other week and came across something I've never seen before: a dead whitetail deer in the water! It was head down with just it's rump poking out of the water. Anyone ever seen anything like this before and/or speculate what happened? It's probably one of the craziest things I've ever seen.
  4. Well, I went to my favorite stream on Monday and headed quite a ways upstream toward the headwaters. Scenery was amazing and the weather co-operated. Quite a few nice-looking holes but not too many fish. I did manage to land four smaller rainbows, three on an adams and one on the worm. I also had a 14+ incher take a hit of one of my home-made yellow hackle dry flies. Wasn't quite sure if anything would go after a yellow dry fly, but I guess now I know. At 14+ inches, that trout must be one of the largest in that little creek, but after I missed the hook set on his first strike, no way I could coax him into another hit. I can't wait to hit this stream again in the summer. Just thought I'd let you guys know how I made out.
  5. Is there an issue with using a plan old white and red bobber? You know, the kind used for bait fishing in stocked ponds? Or is it considered taboo to use something meant for baitfishing?
  6. Hello again. I'm looking for some insight on what type of action/presentation I should be using for leeches as well as clouser minnows. Do I just cast, let them sink for a couple seconds and then start stripping them in slowing? What adjustments do you make when it comes to faster currents? Do you pull them in against the current? Thanks in advance.
  7. Although sitting next to birchy has some advantages when it comes to questions about fishing, he apparently doesn't know everything, so here goes. Throughout the summer I spent a good portion of time fishing in a smaller stream south of the city and had plenty of success, particularly with dry flies. I fished many sections of the stream, but never got a chance to make my way that far upstream toward the head-waters. I am wondering if this time of year has any effect on where the fish would be in a smaller stream. Do they normally head downstream as the weather cools down, or would I still have a chance of catching a couple if I headed quite a ways upstream toward the head-waters?
  8. Just a question for those of you that have called RAP before. Do they actually show up in a timely manner? For example, let's say I caught some ppl using bait on the highwood, but the exact location on the river was somewhat difficult to explain over the phone. If I call RAP and ask them to meet me at a parking lot nearby or something, how long til they show up?
  9. I don't know....with the tail pinch rule, I'd maybe give you 15", 15.5" if I'm generous.
