[Rec Recoil Stripping Guides Vs. The Standard Stripping Guides]

Ok here's my question.

 

I just bought a TFO BVK and it has the REC recoil stripping guides on it. I'm wondering what the difference is with these guide types vs the

standard ones that come on most rods.

 

I ended up taking a course recently and was casting some mid range Sage rods and Orvis rods and liked some more than others and actually

found some loaded nicer then my BVK. Does the stripping guide have anything to do with this?

 

I'm not saying I don't like my BVK but I find it not as easy to load as some of the other rods I tried. My bad because I didn't try out rods before

purchasing the one I have. I'm kind of kicking myself for that now.

[Awesome Site Newbie Question]

I usually run them right in the middle. between bottom fly and top fly. I haven't fly fished in a long time and yesterday I went out. Tossed my flies in and BOOM fish on, first cast. Subsequently snapped me off as I was too lazy to re-rig my gear. Make sure after a few fish you re-tie on your flies.

I'm having a difficult time figuring what size of lead to put on and how many. Any tips on that?

Just bought them. I also called to a couple of local fly shops and they said it was the fin of choice for pontoon and float tubes...

Was out floating the Bow on Saturday and was using my outcast fins for the second time and really had to work hard to control the pontoon boat.

 

Now I'm thinking of purchasing a pair of Force Fins. From what I have read they seem to be the CATS ASS of fins and makes control of the boat a

hell of alot easier.

 

Anyone have experience with them.

[Pontoon Modification Question]

I understand your point about the value of exercise Don (and consequently hard work) however there are other ways to get exercise in.

 

But when you go fishing you go to fish, not row your boat. A trolling motor will significantly increase the size of lake that I am able to explore now.

I couldn't agree with you more BiggyJ.... Especially when those Calgary winds pick when out on one of those large lake.... Been there and have wished I had a motor.

[Pontoon Modification Question]

Yeah, the plexiglass is great and it only took 30mins to cut and finish off. And it's bomber on there.

 

As for the swivel seat I was thinking of that to. Will sure make stearing a hell of alot easier.

[Pontoon Modification Question]

I just bought an IR10 Stand-Up and I have the same mesh strapping on the back. What I ended up doing to reinforce it was buy

the thickest piece of plexiglass from lowes and cut it out around the bars and rounded the corners etc. to make it nice and smooth.

From there I just placed the mesh overtop of it to hold it in place. This give me that extra support for overnight floats and putting

my large marine battery on the back.

Maybe to benefit all "anglers" but not "just" fly anglers!! The Elk is NOT fly fish only!

 

I grew up spin casting so that wasn't the point of what I was trying to get across. In his quote he also mentioned General Public.

 

The point is really from what I saw that day and it's not even summer yet just blew my mind with the traffic and abuse of these motorized boats.

 

And yeah if this keeps up it may have that impact of people not wanting to come and fish this premier trout fishery. Thus having an impact on

guiding, fly shops etc. and great places to go fishing without feeling like your going to be swamped or run over.

OK. No motorized boats below Carseland either. Look at the Elk River in BC. It has banned motorized boats to the benefit of fly fisherman and the general public.

 

After reading all the post's generated from my little rant from last weekend it really does come down to respect and courtesy to others on the river. However Brookie makes a great point with the Elk River and how they have band motorized boats. And there was another comment made on the first page of this topic by Ulmo and below is what he had to say. And all it take's is one of these jack asses not slowing down and ripping it up on the river and finally running into someone. Maybe that's what it'll come down to with putting a ban on them....

Was out on my pontoon boat floating and fishing with a couple of friends on Satruday from Policeman's Flat's to Mckinnon Flats and we

had at least five Jet type boat fly right by us without slowing down. They nearly swapped us with there waves. One of the times I even

used my hand to get them to slow down and with no respect they just kept the same speed. WOW is about all I can say. How disrepectful

can you be and man boat like that should totally be banned on the Bow River System.

 

Sorry but I just needed to rant about that. Other than that the fishing/float was amazing.

 

 

[Good All Around Second Line]

I have a 6wt reel with 6wt floating Rio Gold which is perfect for dry fly, nymphing and some streamers...

 

However I just bought a spare spool for it and I'd like to find a line that I can use for on the Bow, and on lakes that will be good for getting

streamers and other flys down a bit. I'd like something that will work on trout, pike and bass that will do the job. I know that in the middle

of summer if your trying for trout you'll need a fast sinking line but I won't be fishing the lakes as much in the summer. It'll be more in the

spring and fall.

 

However I might be fishing pike or bass in the summer at some point but I don't think it needs to get down as far.

 

So I'm stuck on what my second line should be with having the floating line already.

 

Sink Tips at different rates and what rate?

Intermediate Sinking lines?

 

And different brands such as RIO, Scientific Angler, AirFlo, Etc.

 

If anyone could help out with some advice that would be greatly appreciated.
