  1. Yeah, I just bought a 7wt for streamer fishing on the bow and love it so far. And I fish for bulls and pike quite a bit and yeah a 7wt may be a little to light depending on the flies your trying to chuck. I chuck some pretty big ass flies for bulls and pike and I don't think my 7wt would turn those flies over to well. And like bcube mentioned an 8wt is too much for the bow.

You may want to split the difference and get two setups depending on how much you'll be fishing. There was a guy selling his 8wt Axiom and Lamson Velocity 3.5 on kijiji cheap. That setup would be great for pike and bulls. And then look for a decent 7wt for the bow. At first I was the same trying to buy setups that would do it all and it just doesn't work.

    Hope this helps out.

    Cheers.

  2. The duty and brokerage fees these days seem to be ridiculous. I've ordered a few things lately from the states and every time I get it there is a brokerage/duty fee attached to it. If you get a good deal on something like Vagabond did then it's worth it but I'm finding alot of things are just as cheep to buy here now. Ebay and shopping in the states isn't the same as it use to be a couple of years back. And the shipping is just getting stupid.

  3. I just had a little ball of joy a few months back now and it's been amazing and she does come before fly fishing. However my wife and I have our one day a week we do are own things to keep us who we still are. So once a week I meet up with buddies and get out fishing. And there is the odd weekend in between that I get a day of fishing somewhere and then a couple of weekend trips a year.

It's all about compromise and yes I don't get out near as much as I did last summer but at least I still get to go out and do it.

And once she's big enough to put into one of those backpack carriers I'm going to try and take her out. I'd love it if one day she appreciates fly fishing like I do. However that may never happen and that's ok as well.

All I can say is just find the balance and let your wife have her time as well.

    Cheers.

  4. So it took just over a week to get my flies from TheFlyStop and from just looking them over I am really impressed with the quality for what I paid vs. paying an extra $150 more if I would have bought them from a local fly shop. I really don't mind supporting the local shops and that's where I've bought most of my gear.

And yes as well I don't mind paying for that odd fly that is specially tied and you can't get it anywhere else but for your standard dries and nymphs 0.85 vs 2.50 is a no brainer.

I've also bought from Reelfies, Icky Fly Works, and Dave the fly guy here in Calgary and I've had no problem with the flies last season.

    Cheers.

  5. Yeah, I ended up getting the Simms Riversheds as well at the start of the season and absolutley love them. Great and stable for hiking as well. I ended up putting a pack of the Hardbite Cleats on the bottom and they stick to anything.

Worth every penny esspecially being on my feet all day fishing.

    Hope this helps out.

    Cheers.

  6. After a previous trip and a couple of 5wts breaking I'm glad I had a backup. Especially with a turn around period of about 7 weeks to get my rod there and back.

And the last thing I also want is to be out for a day somewhere or a weekend trip and my only rod breaks and I'm done.

Well, now I'm thinking of doing the same for my 9wt rod. I have a complete setup a 9' 4 piece TFO BVK with two reels. One with floating line and one with 24" sink tip. So I don't want to go with a different weight of rod for the back up.

I'm thinking of almost a switch rod possibly but I don't want to spend a fortune on it.

Some input would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

  7. Hey SanJuanWorm. I'm heading out pike fishing this Monday but the following I'd like to get out to Crawling Valley on my Pontoon and try out some Walleye on the fly. I'm from southern Ontario and at my parents cottage I grew up fishing Walleye, Bass, and Pike.

Do I need a sinking line to catch the walleye right now. I have a 5wt with a floating line and I have a spare spool with 15ft sink tip as well. I also have a 9wt with a floating line and also a 24ft sink tip.

Any info would be greatly apprecated.

    Cheers.

  8. I agree a little pricey but worth it and it keeps the number of fish up there. But I still agree it that it's pricey and you still have to drive all the way there and back and that's not cheap on gas at all. A couple of trips down there a summer is all I'll be doing.

As for the rules changing below elko dam I don't think so cause I was down in the spring and fished below that section and still need to buy the classified daily licence.

    Cheers.
