  1. I tie a fair number of tube flies with plastic Qtip sticks which I use by themselves or as a liner in copper, brass or aluminium tubes available at model building shops.
  2. Why not try some really old flies that are like turn of the century(1900 or so). I have been working on a personal project based on the book "The Practical Angler" by W.C. Stewart Some really interesting stuff there such as eyeless hooks with the leaders tied on as if they were part of the fly. Truly classic stuff that has a great deal of value even today.
  3. The making of a great tube fly here....can see a ton of variations that would work.
  4. Any patterns you looking for in particular? I have this book
  5. You need to make this a vector image then you resize to any size you want without losing image quality. Do you have any idea who is going to run these items for you? They can tell you what you'll need...I'm guessing that they will want this image in CYMK colour
  6. I was wondering if anyone has had to replace the rubber gripper that comes on a rotary hackle plier? Mine has gotten to the point where it has developed a shiny spot that no longer grips a hackle any longer. I have worked out the shiny spot previously with fine sand paper and have reversed the rubber as well ( yes I use them alot). Where would one find these replacement rubber grippers or what could be used as a reliable substitute? Thanks in advance for any info.
  7. That is a groaner
  8. I just happened to luck into this one. It was in an open box and research revealed there were things missing but I can't complain for the price I got it for. I want to tweak it for performance , it sticks a bit at slow speeds. They are no longer made unfortunately.
  9. This machine will add dubbing to thread, and wire. It has the capability to dub very loose or very tight. I'm still experimenting with it but i also have what is called a turbo dubbing block which is a manual version of this item but with a much shorter table length that i received from a friend in the UK.. A dubbing brush is a basically a predubbed length of wire or thread used for tying fly bodies mostly but i have actually made hair hackles with the manual version. Here's what the turbo dubbing block looks like and how it's used: http://www.czechnymphs.co.uk/spinningblock.htm
  10. I went to Wholesale's new location last night and came across this gizmo: It was the only one they had and they aren't made any more but I tried it out and it works pretty good. I going to try and make a dubbing brush using deer hair with this and see how it works . A deer hair dubbing brush would be ideal for for tying cased caddis patterns.
  11. Anyone notice a pattern happening as to what team wins the cup the last few years? Southern states and I'll bet that Bettman loves to help promote the American market....my opinion there are too many teams as is.
  12. My suggestion for posting something that needs improvement is to politely suggest that the business would be more customer friendly if certain suggestions were looked at and improved upon. I would not edit or moderate if the critizism were done in this manner. The tone that COULD be INTREPRITATED is what we are looking at. The post in question that caused the fuss had a distinct negative tone to it. How many of you ever fill out customer feedback cards that some businesses put out? .......these are businesses that want to know what you find negative so they can look at ways to improve.
  13. My apologies to Lynne for her well intentioned thread going off topic...let's get this back on its original topic again. I haven't been to the new location yet and I can practically spit to it from where I live.
  14. Well put Rick
  15. That wasn't me pal
  16. That all depends on the wording of such so called tactful opinion........some people people don't know the meaning of tactful......negativity will be seriously frowned on here; so if you want to be negative let be on a one on one basis not out in the open here as it will be dealt with if out here......we went through this seveveral times with the old forum and the same rules will still apply on the new ....so PLEASE keep this in mind Thank You
  17. You can also tie them in to represent gills or legs on nymphs....almost forgot that one.
  18. I sometimes will use them as wings on streamers, sometimes as a wingcase, throats and that sort of thing
  19. I agree with Harps, get yourself a skin and you'll see where the best feathers are found, for me that is base of the tail , back, neck and throat
  20. Are you using loose partridge feathers from out of a bag? If you are that is probably the problem, I personally I tried 2 bags and I doubt if I found a dozen and a half good feathers combined from the 2 bags.
  21. Brent the same policy applies here as on the old forum.....no slandering of other people or businesses......there is a zero tolerance on this matter end of story.
  22. What sizes are you trying to tie?
  23. I just tie in at the tip and then one and half to turns and then tie off; nothing fancy
  24. Anyone hear who it was?
  25. This is somrthing I have noticed with all the shops : the best selection seems to be from mid December to mid January. Most times I have to make a milk run for items I need to tie orders that I get .
