Well it’s spiked up to 165 m3/s now. So they basically raised And returned the 12” of water level back from what we lost over night. This is borderline criminal!

Good morning,
looking at the flows this morning, something doesn't seem right. Flows level from midnight to 8:00am this morning has dropped a dramatic 180 m3/s to 105 m3/s. I’ve never Witnessed such a large volume of a drop in a short period of time. Is this actually the case this morning? Or maybe a error on the software at the Alberta Rivers Flow charts App... and if so, wondering how the fish would be affected in a short time environment.

FC should be open April 1st as far as I know. Last floated on Monday and we were still dragging the boat over the ice at Police, although it was down to about half of that slack water pool.
Thanks for the heads up Noodles...

Been hearing some boats are floating the city stretch. Just wondering if both boat launches FC/Police for take out are open and ice free? or were dragging boat over the ice.
thanks

Policemen flats...
Is that a 2nd boat ramp that was added? If so has anyone used it as a Put in or take out yet. Even tho the rocks has been taken out, it’s still a little tricky take out at end of float due to fast running current.

Talked to Mel at bow river shuttles. Fish Creek is open.
Great news...
Hopefully Mac opens up for the 1st or shortly after. Next weekend I have three days off work and nothing better then 3 Consecutive day floats to McKinnon...

How about a update on Fish Creek? Open yet, or very near..

Good morning,
With the first phase of work being completed these past three days, has the big rock been taken out? If not I’m assuming and hoping it will be done on the 2nd round of construction. .
thanks

Reviving an old thread:
so did you make this trip, Porto? I'm interested in making the same journey in my boat, but I'm wondering if it's necessary to have someone familiar with the water along. I'm a competent rower but I have never navigated the upper Bow, and I'd rather err on the side of good judgment.
So, can someone who is a decent rower expect to navigate safely from Banff to Canmore on their first attempt?
No I haven't yet. Just got back from a long family hoilday in Europe. Still hoping to do this float before August end..

Hello,
We were floating yesterday (Sunday) about half way point of police and highwood, when my son was nymphing and snagged a rock or something good! and pulled rod right from his grip into the water.
Anyone finds it, please hand it in for me. I will describe Rod, weight, reel and flylne...
Thanks

Sorry..
This net is not near 6'

Did a float today between Police/Mac and found a net on the bank about half ways down...Describe Net and it's yours.

Sage one 590-4 weighs 2.75 oz. so multiplying that by 1.5 is 4.1 oz...
Cool... So your formula conferns I'm set up just nicely with my Ssge One 590-4
-
I don't have a formula for you...but to answer you question " Too Light " yes!
I use a Sage One 5wt with a 7/8 nautilus FWX, 6wt streamer fly line. And find the balance Perfect with great overall light feel...
When I tried my buddy's 5/6 nautilus FWX, 5wt fly line with the Sage One 5wt, founded it to be overall to light!! Mind you I'm using this set-up for chucking streamers all day...
And for the record, there's very little difference in weight between both reels. Not sure how much more weight if any, by going one size up on the fly line either.
Nautilus FWX
5/6, 3.8oz.
7/8, 4.1oz.
Great reels...

I will keep my eyes and ears open up here in Edmonton.

TFO BVK 5wt...
For the amount of cost with lifetime warranty, great feel and great response I'm very happy with it...

Hello,
Would appreciate any advice or heads up information with anyone with experience and what to expect on a float from bow falls in Banff to Highway1 in Canmore in the month of late June/early July sometime, it would be my first. I will be using a 16 foot fibreglass Drift Boat which I have two years experience with floating the lower bow from Glenmore to McKinnon.
This would be a family pleasure/fishing float. By the sounds of things, fishing will be tough going threw this stretch! I'm more interested in the float it itself through the mountains with my sons.
One of my concerns are the channels I have to navigate through and which channels not to float threw. Going with the channel with the most size and flow of river should keep us safe.
Any information on what kind of fishing to expect throughout our float would also be nice. I understand I will need a park fishing license up to the park gates.
Thank you for any involvement on this subject

Hello,
Looking for some feedback/advise on a streamer rod for Bow River and area. My Orvis 8wt is to much rod and heavy for the amount of casting I'm doing with big streamers in this area..
I'm looking at the Sage Pulse 790-4 and 7100-4 as options. It's a new rod in market and reviews are good. Most are saying its a fast action but a couple reviews have it at fast/mid action. Hoping for fast action, higher end with what I'm use to at a reasonable price ($575). One other question, I'm leading towards a 10' rod over the 9'. Thoughts on length?
Any feedback or advice on other models and same price range or cheaper. Highly appreciated.
Thanks

3'-4' on the streamers with the Bow and 5'-6' on smaller rivers and creeks..
-
I personally go with Maxima Ultragreen 10lb to a worm or stone and Maxima Ultragreen 8lb on the dropper. And like I said earlier 14lb steelhead tippet for streamers.
-
This is too funny...I use 12lb Maxima for nymphing....like they really care when you are worming. Don't try it...it will never work. I tie my upper fly on to a perfection loop with a snelled fly
Monger... What lb test are we using on the streamers? I go with a 14lb steelhead Tippet. I'm now thinking a bit over kill for the bow. Lol

Can someone confirm Mac’s boat launch is closed September 1 and not the 8th? Rumours going around it’s the 8th for the closer of McKinnon flats access.
Thanks
