  1. With hundreds of etiquette things to remember when you are on the river, remembering everything you need to bring on the trip, and all the rules / regulations you need to have in your back pocket, fishing is still the best sport to live. Here are some etiquette tips I believe in: -cut the leader off your rod and tie it on your buddies when he's frustrated with a tanglation so he can still fish -pack extra drinks / food for the team -pack extra long sleeve shirt and hat -when floating the Bow and passing another party, a nod of the hat is suffice - knowing you are not interfering with them Send some of your tips -even if they seem trivial to you, we need to hear them.
  2. Pay extra caution when your fish jumps out of the water- rod tip should be on the surface of the water with a side angle.

  3. That's cool stuff !!! Tying your own flys. South Bow fly shop
  4. With all the boats out there, and bank guys, big water it's easy too get too close. All I can say is , check for weeds on your flys .Hope that helps
  5. Been on the river a few times with you and the little fellow. So sorry for your loss.
  6. Been tying some serious flys - adding to my top six. Been on fly fish calgary all weekend off and on. With all the serious fly fish Calgary topics going on I thought it would be refreshing to pull out the UFO topic. Anyone have any interesting tidbits you'd like to share with the team.
  7. Having trouble getting the video working, but here is a pic. Lots of lights and stories out there especially on the web. Still looking for some fun on fly fish calgary with ufo stories, maybe I should switch it to ufo flys. Proud to be a member of fly fish calgary. thanks fly fishy
  8. I was really hoping for more of your stories, but what should I expect from a bunch of Pro fly people to Enjoy Alien conspiracy theories.
  9. Was a little bored today - saw a bunch of PVR'd alien shows- had it on my mind. Just thinking with all these shows and radio programs seems like they are out there. Are you members too scared to talk about it because of the Men in Black? LOL
  10. still looking for one!!! \ check out these lites ,,,,,,,,cool stuff right have you seen something too? Whats your 2 bits go/
  11. Believe it or not - I use this line lots /rod lots , ask my friends! It seems to work! Does anyone want to share the antiques you use?
  12. This tool was grandfathered to me and it has saved many trout lives after they have deeply swallowed a fly. I recommend that everyone puts this in the "backpack" to take fishing. What is your grandfathered tip? Any members have an antique they'd like to share (that they still use today or not)? to add to SanJuanWorm's backpack
  13. Tools have changed over the hundreds of years of fly fishing, but the oldies are still as good as the new ones. Here are a few of my grandfathered items: Changing up the thred a little - this might be more interesting. Show your antiques!
  14. After being out screening the river it took a lot longer than I expected to find these worms. Nailed these babies at the tail of a pool (in the slower water) after spending much time in the ripply water where I found all other kinds of specimens. The size, shape, and colour was varied (1/2 inch to 3 inch). These must be sanjuan worms - to me they look like earthworms. When tying this worm it looks like anything goes. Sorry the pic 's hiding , actually 15 more like that ! Full Edided this part!!! With almost 200 people viewing my pic of the worms I am quite disappointed that only 2 people responded to it. I know most people fish worms on the Bow and that's all I get? I was quite proud to share the info I discovered with the team. Hope your flies look like these worms. Happy fishing!
  15. Here's a tip show a pic's or two it's all fun!

  16. I'm heading out Wednesday to nail a live sanjuan worm and a trout combo. Then I'll come home and tie a worm up. Here are some of my the colours - I'll match the colour hatch when I find the live worm. I'll send full pics - awfully stoked about netting the worm to tie up - still don't believe its not bright red. Any members have a style of sanjuan they'd like to share?
  17. Happy Easter. Hope you enjoy your dinner and family day. Appreciate your constructive comments about the worm. Still looking for a picture of a Bow Sanjuan (live one). This may seem over done but to be a pro fly person you have to tie exactly what the trout are eating; size, shape, colour. Basic rules of being a fly nut.
  18. I tried out this colander to screen the river for the worms, I believe it worked well. Should set it up for a line basket / bug screener.
  19. I went out on Sunday - no worms - where are they? Found this stonefly in the river under the rocks - wings and all! The water level came up two feet since two weeks ago when I was looking in the same place under rocks that were dry. These sanjuan worms must live deep in the middle of the river - I wasn't going to drown trying to find one - or is there really a red worm in the river? I challenge you members to screen the river and show the team a live worm. Anybody have ideas on proper screening of bugs on the river?
  20. Like to say thanks for all the members that contributed to this thred about the worm and the worm in question. Maybe I just had bad luck? I enjoyed discussing the worm in the Bow. I'm heading out on Sunday to screen the river on what the live worm looks like. Might take me days! Will post a pic when I find one, or does a member have one to share? We all like watching our fish swim away back to their prime spot in the river.
  21. With all the work some fly fishermen have done developing their best worm -hats off to you - its a lot of work. I'm a minnow pro - can't remember what a sanjuan worm from the bow looks like alive. Anyone have a pic of a sanjuan worm or earthworm live? All pics welcome. not sure if the fish eat the worm all year long- but why do all anglers have it on their line? I believe they do eat it, saddened to think the fish get hurt while sucking on my worm.
  22. Was out fishing today -met some members from FFC - proud - all of us had worms on our rigs somewhere. No one had one of the worms in question (earlier discussed). It was an excellent day -hooked one twenty plus brown trout I thought on the minnow, but when I got home the hook was straightened on the worm hook. My fish must have eaten the worm. remember: use 2X strong hooks or it will look worse than this. Check your hooks
  23. I went on the Bow to my favourite park and walk spot to swing some new minnows I made in the winter - didn't do that well probably (maybe) because there was a young angler there. He was nimphing worms, we had a chat, he was so proud to show me all of his flies he'd been tying. When I seen his worm hooks I said they were real eye catchers. That style of hook, he reluctantly said, got one small rainbow in the eye earlier, but he was proud of his hand tied flies, and insisted I try one. It looked like he had hundreds. So I tied one behind my minnow, swung the flies thru the pool and hooked a small rainbow in the mouth and into the eye, just like I said would happen. This style of hook should be banned from the river. I felt so bad I called it a day and walked back to the truck with my head low. Turned on FFC to report this type of hook. On the pic below, the bottom hook is the one in question. The top two are ones I use and have never had a problem with. How's your rig look? Use pliers to straighten your worm out giving it a tight bend at the hook gap so no trout get injured when they are starving.
  24. Fishing worms on the Bow is a very productive and enjoyable way to fish. There are hundreds of variations including bobbers, leaders, worms, nymphing styles, presentation etc . Feel free to share a story about your rig.
  25. That' s the fastest 6:36 minutes ever! \ I NEED A WET WIPE THANKS
