How Do You Post Profile Photos?
fisher26 replied to fisher26's topic in General Chat - Fishing Related
It says there was an error I think it's because the pictures to large to fit the limits... -
How do you post profile photos? Thanks

Ok thanks Toolman that makes sense. It was the first real heat wave (30+) so I guess they where just poorly released. It always amazes me that such a small river like the crow (which is tiny in August) can handle so much pressure and it still seems like there's plenty of big fat rainbows just after run-off each year. In late summer you can pretty much see to the bottom of every pool and I pretty much seem to catch little guys... I guess the big fussy eaters wait until night to feed and are really spooky during the day.

No body marks... They looked ok except for the fact they where dead.
-
Locations in which they were washed up. They were usually floating in the water, one was on a gravel bar.

I was fishing the crow this weekend and saw several dead whitefish along the banks. I saw only one dead trout, which was old as it was just bones and a bit of head. I have no clue whether this was a fish kill or just some stupid fishermen killing whitefish because they are a “lesser” fish. All the whitefish where a couple hours to a day (not sure but no decay) dead and had no smell (I didn’t try to smell them...) indicating a recent death. Despite this the river fished pretty good. Does any one have an idea what could have killed all of these whitefish (saw maybe 10 in total) spread out throughout the river? I have fished the crow for a while now and have never seen a dead fish before so I am curious to hear what you guys (and gals) think was the cause. I know that natural deaths occur but nothing like this....

Hey some day Calgary will reach 2 million (and with the oil boom quite soon…) and with the amount of growth in this city a lot more are enjoying it too. It's a great city but the amount of crime seems to be going rampant at this moment. Blame it on the foreigners!

Sounds a lot like whirling disease if it is that’s BAD! WD reduced rainbow populations on the Madison by 90% and has devastated American trout fisheries; hardly any Albertans know anything about it, which is stupid because it is the biggest threat to our fisheries (unless you only like fishing for browns which are immune) Once it's brought to a water body it's there for ever so I really hope that you didn’t spot it... Post pics and I might be able to tell you. By the way it’s transported by fishermen from infected body’s of water going to uninfected. It is amazingly hardy (can live in dried mud for 30+ years) and felt is an ideal transporter. Where the spines a warped on the fish you caught, if so that is definitely WD.

No I don't prefer people to poach. That's why I said I don't mind keeping fish within the regs.. Hmm you seem to be only reading select area's of my posts Anyways I'm glad that you guys approve of making an article on proper catch and release techniques. On Vic Bergman's fishing map of the crow he put tips on catch and release on a page of the booklet. There is some good basic info there and I'm sure forum members would be more than happy on posting some of their techniques

Interesting MTB I will keep that in mind

I heard (maybe wrong) that if a fish isn’t stressed it’s eyes will be pointing center ways. Now that could be either dead or alive and calm… I have landed plenty of fish without their pupils looking straight that swam away perfectly fine.
-
Sorry there must have been a misunderstanding. I just said I preferred people keeping fish then to let them go and die, I hold nothing against spin fishers and just said that I don't mind anglers fly or spin following regs and keeping fish. The fishermen who accidentally (I assume) killed the fish on the crow where fly fishermen FYI and that’s what prompted me to make this post so other Fly Fishers could perhaps learn how to better release fish. How is that "elitist"?

I was fishing a nice run on the crow a couple of days ago when I hooked into a large fish, quickly landed it and released it and just as it darted away a white streak in the water caught my eye. Then I realized that it was a dead fish belly up floating down the river (about 15 inches or so), at first I thought it was the fish I just released but then I realized it was smaller and had a larger mouth I attempted to scoop it up with my net but it was to late. So I walked upstream to where I saw a couple of fishermen earlier (obviously novices to the sport) and saw one of the guys clearly exited, flailing a rod every which way to cast. By now I'm pretty sure that they caught and "released" the trout meaning throwing it up on the rocks, letting it flop around, taking some pictures and putting it back in the water. I am sure they didn’t intentionally mean to kill the fish but they did and I'm sure with their releasing skills they have killed many more, whether aware or not. The particular day of fishing was a great one and it ended up spoiled by this incident. I rather have spin fishers catch and keep a fish, and enjoy it then people being rough on fish and killing a large portion of their catch. Shouldn’t there be a test or at least a booklet handed out to fishermen with techniques to properly catch and release trout? Tips like keep the fish in the water (as much as possible), fully revive it, don't play it to exhaustion, look for fatal or not good signs such as pupils pointing downward. This led me to thinking that maybe FFC should make an article on how to catch and release fish without high mortalities.

What a great trip ... Except for the finger part, Ouch! So just a quick question when fish’s eyes are pointing downward that means they are really stressed right? I noticed this on some pictures here and others of mine. Since I learnt that I have been very careful to reduce the amount of stress on fish since it is in fact measurable. Is it normal for some fish you catch (say 10%) to have their eye's pointing downward? And if a fish's eyes are pointing downward what are it's chances of survival? Again great trip, I hope to get out soon too

What’s the difference between a DSLR and the one you posted at London drugs? (SJW thanks for the offer but I am interested in Digital only)

So this weekend I was fooling around with one of those fancy dancy advanced digital cameras, which I think are called SLR’s (not quite sure) but you know there pretty big, usually black have different lenses etc. I took some nice photos and really enjoyed it; I’ve always liked photography (if you could call it that) with regular point and shoot digitals however I really like the amount of control with the SLR cameras. Plus I also saw some of the great shots on this site and links (Clive) that kind of inspired me to take my photographs to the next level. So bottom line is t hat I would like to get one of those “artistic” cameras but have a low budget. The truth is although I like photography fly-fishing is my main thing and I’d rather spend most money on fishing equipment. I have no clue what the price range of these cameras are but something in the $400-$500 dollar range would be my limit. Of course if there are cheaper decent cameras I would prefer them. Keep in mind I have ABSOLUTLEY no clue on any of the photography jargon so if you could keep explinations basic that would be good. What sort of SLR camera would you suggest for a cheap beginner like me? Would I need to buy more lenses with the camera for different shots or could I get a universal lens that could be used for most things? Is there anything I dn’t know that I should before considering making this purchase? And where is the best place to buy one (price wise)? Thanks

How does the OM tail water fish in terms of numbers, size, and consistency of fishing? I love fishing the crow for it's great scenery and nice rainbows, plus you have a good chance of catching lots of fish. Just curious if the OM tail water is any good. -
Great thanks TM what's the vis look like?

Ok I need a quick response on this one as I've got the rest of the day off, fortunately it's easy question. What does the Bow look like currently in terms of conditions? What fly's and techniques should I use? Thanks

http://www.greatestcities.com/8731pic/209/...anal-venice.jpg Yah but the houses would probably be whipped out by one of those "once in a hundred" year floods that seem to take place every 5-10 years. -
Thanks that helps to explain.
