  1. No Longer Needed----Have ordered a new one.

Please ignore the message below. I have ordered a new steel anchor from Hyde.

    Thanks.

    --------------------------------------------------

Lost Anchor (30lb lead pyramid) and braided rope on Bow near downstream tip of an island between the llama farm and the Cliffs of Doom on Saturday July 15. Reward or $50, or a float on the Bow in August or Sept., to anyone who finds and returns them. End region of rope may be floating on/near surface and visible.

    (Don't ask how it happened--kinda embarrassing) :)

  3. I ordered a Clackacraft 15' LP a few years ago from their Idaho Falls site. They took care of any customs charges, etc, and delivered the boat and trailer to my house in Calgary. At that time, I think the charge for delivery was about $500 U.S.

  4. Let's Try to Help Out!---- (either Toolman and/or Streamwatch)

This situation really sucks, as others have previously pointed out.

Toolman doesn't deserve this, as he has made so many valuable contributions to this forum, and has unselfishly spent a lot of time and effort organizing Spey Classes and other events to help others.

I would like to propose the following, since there are at least around 2940 or 3000 (??) members on this site. I would encourage everyone who has appreciated Toolman's contributions to each donate $10 or so to help replace his equipment, if it is not recovered. This could be done by signing up at this site, and hopefully someone (admin or other) could volunteer to collect the money and checks and keep track of what has been collected. All it would take would be around 200 contributions of $10 each to replace his outfit. My guess is that a lot more would be raised.

I would suggest that any funds collected in excess of the money ($2000 or so) that Toolman requires to replace his outfit, be donated to the Streamwatch program. Or, hopefully, if Toolman is able to find or recover his missing outfit, then all the money could be turned over to the Streamwatch program.

What do you all think? I would be happy to be the first one to pledge my $10.

  5. I visited the Bass Pro Shop in Las Vegas, which is actually connected to the Silverton Casino/Hotel. The fly fishing section seemed to be OK. The wall on one side was largely a giant glassed-in aquarium filled with an impressive population of large rainbow and brown trout. (I won some money at some casinos, so was able to buy a reel and line at the shop).

  6. Has anyone fished the Willamette in and around Portland? I'm going to be in Portland for work later this month and I'm wondering if it's worth bringing a long rod with me. If I have to go too far outside of Portland for a shot at anything then I probably won't bother. Any other options that I'm not aware of in the area?

    -------------------------

I used to live in Portland many years ago, and there wasn't much caught in the Willamette in the area immediately around Portland (at least at that time), except for Spring Chinooks around March or April (mostly trolling or anchor fishing from boats with gear). Your best best might be the Sandy River which is only 10 to 20 miles away. There is a run of silver salmon around Sept-Nov, and seasonal runs of summer and winter steelhead. Also, the Deschutes River is about a 2 hour drive away from Portland and there is usually good summer and fall steelhead fishing there. You should check out the Welches Fly Shop website at flyfish@flyfishusa.com , or Google it, as they have lots of info on fly and Spey fishing, river reports, etc, as well as info on guided trips on the Sandy and the Deschutes.

Also there are some rivers near the coast (about 90 minutes away), such as the Trask where large Fall Chinooks up to 60 lbs or so used to be caught on fly tackle in October and November (I don't know about current conditions). (I caught 53 and 34 lb Chinooks in the Trask one day several years ago on red yarn and eggs, before I was into fly fishing). You might also find some info about the Trask or other coastal rivers by contacting or phoning Jim Teeny , the developer of Teeny fly lines, located in the Portland area (Gresham, OR). (see his website, http://www.jimteeny.com/index.html)

  7. Lost a small circular clear plastic box that was filled with large stimulators and big hopper patterns. This happened either on August 6th somewhere between Fish Creek and MacKinnon's (or at boat ramp area), or possibly a week earlier between Mackinnon's and Carseland. Offering reward upon return if found -- e.g. 1/2 day on a private lake.

  8. Don,

Gordon is likely in transit flying over to Calgary from Glasgow, but he does have a spot open for Saturday's school. He is arriving late Thursday pm and staying with me for the weekend. I will let him know that you are in. See you on Sunday.

    Toolman,

Thank you. I will be there on Sunday (I assume you meant Sunday).

    Don
