Can you not find a local builder if you want a custom built rod?
Is it that much cheaper? Are the components the same? The components can be as much to do with the overall price of the rod as the blank. Add to that how do you know the quality? 100% warranty is only good while they are still in business, what guarantee do you have? Add the currency exchange and Pay Pal costs, add the brokerage fees and shipping. I won't take the risk.
I like the support that the local shops provide to Clubs, Trout Unlimited, Streamwatch, Casting for Life and Project Healing Waters just to name a few.
I suggest SHOP AT HOME :derby racer:
We all expect alot from our local shops and every time that we go some where else to save a couple of bucks it weakens our local shops.
I don't know what industry you work in but for an example If you where an Insurance Agent would you care if we all bought our insurance on the net? Please Look At THE BIG PICTURE.
ps: I don't own or work for a shop.
I dont know of any local builders If you have any suggestions please let me know. I would rather shop local as long as the price is within reason. as for price there is between a $200-$300 saving for a z-axis

I got one off one of the guys last year and am really happy. The components are decent and I was able to pick blank colour, thread colour to match my primary line, component color to match the reel as well as getting my name added to the blank. He also added markers on the blank I could use to measure the fish. IMO, if I could build my own, this is what I would have done, but I don't have the time or ambition to do so.
Thanks but I am looking for someone to build a z-axis

But one disadvantage I could see with buying off of Ebay is that if you break something on your custom then you'd have to find someone to fix it for you because you can't send it to the manufacturer as they will only repair the blank.
Most of the rod builders on ebay will warranty there work and re wrap for free if you have the new blank shipped to them

Has anyone bought a new custom made flyrod on ebay?
There are a few guys selling high end rods for what seems to be a good deal compared to the price of the factory equivelant rod. I have found 3 sellers in particular that I am concidering ordering from. any thought on going this way? pro's or con's
I know warranty work will take longer but all three sellers will re wrap free of charge as there part of the warranty
Thanks Wayne

Might want to look at the ZXL for the 3 or 4 weight as well.
I've got a ZXL in a 4 and a Z in a 6. I prefer casting the ZXL over the Z-axis...
I would be concerned how well the zxl would handle the wind

Have you cast a Z-Axis yet? Don't know about your other rods, but the Z is way different from your TFO Ti's.
I haven't cast the z axis. I live in Lethbridge and wholesale sports will not let you take the rods out of the store to cast.
I am mainly leaning towards this rod due to the amount of people that rave about it and I haven't heard anyone who dislikes this rod, being a fast action rod it should be a good fit with my casting style as all my other rods are moderate to fast action

I am thinking of picking up a couple of z axis's either 3/5, 3/6 or 4/6 I mainly fish the crow, oldman, and smaller streams in the gap I also want to be able to throw some big bully streamers as well. I also like to fish lakes. Based on this which rod combination would make the most sense. How well would the 3wt work with bigger dries in the wind? or is there anything else I should be looking at.
I currently have
3wt tfo signature series 7'6"
4wt tfo ticr 9'
5wt tipflex orvis t3 9'
6wt tfo ticrx 9'
I am thinking of selling these and just replacing them with 2 high end rods
Thanks Wayne

Does anyone regret getting these. Any problems or issues? Do any other companys make a similar design?
Thanks Wayne

What would be a good price on these waders

Sounds like you either have tennis or golfers elbow if the pain is on the top it is tennis if the pain is on the bottom it is golfers elbow. I would recomend getting one of these braces as I fit lots of them on people with similar complaints

What waterproof camera does everyone use?
I was looking at the olympus. The 850sw is on sale for $259 and the 1030sw is on for $350 is it worth the extra $100? Is ther any other cameras I should be looking at? I would like to keep it below $300 but could go as high as $400 if needed
Thanks Wayne
I do fish mostly mountain streams so I was kind of leaning toward the olympus because of the shock resistance does this make sense? which optio are you guys using? I found the w60 on sale for $320 is that a good price?

Do you use a water bladder when fishing? what size do you use? would you like smaller or larger? I am looking @ the fishpond but can't decide between 52 or 100 ounces. 100 ounces would be close to 9 lbs that semms like alot

Thanks make sense the kit has stuff I would never use.I also checked out the Danvise message and see that I could get that vise for the same price would that be a good choice or not ideal for a beginer? I tend to upgrade everything so I would rather start with something good rather than purchase another 1 next year
Thanks Wayne

I want to start tying my own flies. Should I buy a kit? What quality vise, tools are in the kits? Or should I purchase a vise, basic tools and the supplies for the flies I want to tie? What is a good entry level vise that I wont be dissapointed in also reasonably priced? What should I look for in a vise? I will probally not tie anything smaller than size 16 I will be starting with SJW then buggers and nymphs once I master these I would like to tie some dries as well
Thanks for any info Also I am in Lethbridge so selection is limited

Any comments on the SA ultra 4?
-
What type of fishing are you planning on doing? I haven't tried out the Gold yet, but I do have favour for most other RIO lines like the Selective Trout and the Nymph lines.
The 4 would be for dry's the 6 would be for streamers or lake fishing
-
I have that Rio Gold in a #6 and don't like it at all. It would be a great dry fly presentation line but I didn't like the way it loaded the rod for nymphing or streamer fishing. Very supple line though, and many people really like it.
I'll sell you a used once Rio Gold line for $50 if you'd prefer.
What rod were you using it on ? I need the 6 for a TFO Ticrx what do you think
-
SA ultra 4 $47.00 or Rio Gold $65.00? both in wf floating 4 & 6 Weight
Thanks

I would like to thank everyone for all the great advice. I picked up a z axis 490-4 for a great price and a Ross evolution reel. When I sell my other rods I will pickup either a z axis 690-4 or 696-4
