  1. Hey Taco I am comparing what is proposed for hunting here in Alberta to what the classified waters issue is in BC. The classified waters have the special license with the $20 dollar fee. The concept in open spaces as it applies to hunting is the land owner gets compensated for what the impact elk herds have on his land by being given licenses that he can sell to who ever is willing to pay...whether it is a guide or not. He will determine the cost of access and the license at least from what I have been informed of. So if you have the money you can hunt in prime areas. Of course their is still lots of hunting available on public land and good hunting at that.

I wasnt implying that in BC the rich get the best places to hunt but that could well be the scenario here under the open spaces.

  2. The Wife Store

A store that sells new husbands has just opened in New York City, where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates:

You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the value of the products increase as the shopper ascends the flights. The shopper may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go up to the next floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!

So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband. On the first floor the sign on the door reads:

Floor 1 - These men Have Jobs.

She is intrigued, but continues to the second floor, where the sign reads:

Floor 2 - These men Have Jobs and Love Kids.

'That's nice', she thinks, 'but I want more.'

So she continues upward. The third floor sign reads:

Floor 3 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, and are Extremely Good Looking.

'Wow,' she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

She goes to the fourth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 4 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Good Looking and Help With Housework.

'Oh, mercy me!' she exclaims, 'I can hardly stand it!'

Still, she goes to the fifth floor and the sign reads:

Floor 5 - These men Have Jobs, Love Kids, are Drop-dead Gorgeous, Help with Housework, and Have a Strong Romantic Streak.

She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor, where the sign

    reads:

Floor 6 - You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please. Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store.

    PLEASE NOTE:

To avoid gender bias charges, the store's owner opened a New Wives store just across the street.

The first floor has wives that love sex.

The second floor has wives that love sex and have money.

The third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors have never been visited.

  3. Our local fish and game club, as I am sure all are, are fighting this proposal as they should be. This concept is not far off what is happening in BC with the classified waters only in a hunting perspective. The rich get the choice bulls....poor pick up what is left. Some of the biggest ranches affected would be the ones down close to Waterton National Park and from what I am hearing is the ranchers down there are not all that happy about it as well because the plan is allow for larger elk herds in the area. Ranchers don't like the elk competing with their cows for range.

Hadn't realized this policy would apply to fishing as well.

  4. Hope so cause as smart as they are I bet that dog can't net a fish..... if he can..... we'll thats about all I got going for me over the dog so heres hoping he can't

No they can't net a fish...but they will retrieve them

  5. Congratulations...labs are great dogs and are a lot of fun on the river....once you can keep them out of it long enough to catch a fish or two. They are the best fishing buddy, cause they never catch more fish than you. :P

  6. Gary,

One day we will meet on the river, and I will pay you back for this. ;) Started watching (it may take awhile). Got to the Jesus vs. Horus part. Started some internet research (ever tried to find unbiased opinion on the net before? Jeeesh). Anyway, found this and thought it interesting. A comparison between Kennedy and Lincoln:

 Well Rickr...told you if nothing else you would be entertained. I think they include a bibliography at the end of the film or somewhere on their site. All I would ever say about this is that it is interesting and definitely different!

  7. The derailment was a very minor one. 2 engines left the track. No other cars involved and no spills. No immediate cause for alarm. Only real damage was to the CPR track and of course the 16 or 20 hours of lost traffic. Nothing has been contaminated. The fact that once again a train derailed here in the Pass is a cause for concern. Not only for the people that live here but for everyone that is concerned about the health of the Crowsnest River and the impact on water consumers downstream.

The current rail system, designed for 80 car trains, can not support the traffic it is currently seeing. Couple that with an eroded safety and inspection system does not bode well for people living close to train routes nor for environmentally sensitive areas. Don't be fooled by the response to concerns showcased in this thread. CPR's (and CN's) track record in the past few years speaks for itself.

  8. Well..here we go again. Must be spring cause another train has left the track in Crowsnest Pass. Sometime late yesterday afternoon (Feb. 12) or early yesterday evening two engines left the track out close to Crowsnest Lake. Course probably just an anomaly cause I hear its CN that is the unsafe rail company. Can't remember exactly where I heard that. Oh right it was mentioned in a presentation to Crowsnest Pass Council by the CPR.

  9. I subscribe to the Same *hit, Different Pile theory of provincial politics so it remains to be seen if the Tories can sufficiently reinvent themselves this next term to stay in power. That said, I hope Morton stays were he's at because he seems to like to get things done and not insulate himself behind 15 layers of bureaucratic BS like the last Minister.

I have to agree with Taco that it would be great should Morton return as Minister of SRD. His political ideals are miles away from mine but he does have the passion most of here have regarding fish, wildlife, and land use. He is the best person in the, so far, ruling party for the job. I do have to say though that Dave Coutts was a very honourable politician, a good man, and was an excellent minister of that portfolio. It took Dave a bit to find his passion for it but he did find it. He found it by listening to people. Listening to them and then taking the steps needed to put that advice to action. Had Dave been given the chance to keep his position you would have gotten a better perspective on what kind of minister Dave really was.

  10. Well you can definitely rule out the newly formed Wildrose Alliance. The less government is more party. Running on reducing government services. Giving more breaks to the corporations. Referendums on tax increases both provincially and municipally. Where with their agenda would the money come from for more enforcement. Oh wait I can guess. They would look at BC and try to create in Alberta a fishery like they have in Great Britain. A fishery for the wealthy and privileged. Cause they deserve it.

Geez just reading that shows me why I lost the nomination in Macleod.

  11. I am surprised at all the knowledgable Scotch drinkers on this site. All giving good advice. My favourite is Glenffidich. I like the 12 year cause of its sharpness but the 15 year is very good probably as smooth as Dalwhinnie or Highland Park. Glenmorangie is also one of my favourites. My youngest son always gets me a bottle for special occasions. Irish single malts are also good, Red Breast being my favourite. Red Breast would make a great gift.
