Hell..if you can go to Oz, then you should be able to buy whatever you need as far as materials are concern right there...I spent 6 months there and didn't have a problem finding shops that sold what was needed for the flies that were producing...just enjoy the hospitality, the friendliness, the fishing and the great evenings.............Wolfie

..had asked a friend of mine from Luxembourg, here was his answer..
.. Hi-vis klinkhammer (or para-dun or any easily visible fly) and a very small fly-20 or 22 (e.g. grifffiths gnat or f-fly) trailing behind it can be deadly [around 2' or less]- particularly in faster water or at dusk where it's very hard to see small flies. The bigger fly is acting as a strike indicator and also gets taken itself.

I don't tan most hides but clean it well and take all meat and fat off then coat it in borax, changing the borax after a week and leave for around a month or so. I then hang them in a dry area and cut what I need as required.
As to critters, Jack has nailed it perfectly. I also however sometimes nuke a small sample I will be using for 15 seconds or so anyway.
there is still an old method not mentioned...SALT...that is a strong solution of non iodized salt..a 'brine solution'. In my taxidermy years, that was how I was taught but since the availability of 'borax', that is the best way and it is cheaper than buy isopropyl alcohol, which by the way Jack is an older way than salt!

I don't suppose you know that cat urine is lethal to humans..the urine crystallizes and remains permanent on objects..feline's piss is a way to ward off other felines in the area, [as it is for other animals], sending them a message of territory.....so many ppl have cats, yet they are engulfing the crystals of urine from them every day without knowing the end results..

sure can.......
hook = #2 2xl streamer hook
tail = 2 brown hackles and a few strands of pearl flash
undrbody = deer hair trimmed flat top and bottom
back = craft foam
head = spun deer hair
eyes = med craft eyes
First start with the tail. Tie in hackle and flash. Next tie in foam back. Tie in bunches of deer hair along the sides of the hook shank. Continue to about 4 eyes back of the eye. Trim top and bottom flat. Pull up foam over back and tie off. Now make the head by spinning deer hair and shape. Glue on the eyes with a drop of epoxy and ur done. I usualy add a drop of glue to eack bunch of deer hair on the sides for strength. Hope that makes sense. I was bored one night and wanted to make a diff lookin mouse and that is what i came up with.

A long time ago a gentleman who encouraged me to dive into the world of fly fishing/fly tying made me one of his special whip finishers..actually two but one recently broke, however, here is a pic of it..
it is made in a silver pen ....since I needed a long one , to use when making certain flies, I scanned around, and came up with almost the same design as my teacher...'The Griffin'..
..came the closest. -
some flies i tied for the smallmouths in my neck of the woods and maybe the pike in yours....cheers!

Body : consists of two coloured foam glued together..[Dark up top Lighter underneath]..in this case Green.
Legs : sili black/white
Belly : epoxy [to seal the foam on the hook], [eyes],[re-enforce the legs at joints],[antenna]
Thread : green/or yellow 6/0
Antenna : African Anteater body fur
Eyes : prism stick on eyes

one method of ..removing the odor off your hands which work very good by the way is to rub ceder or pine, spruce needles between ur hands, this works...give it a try. The natural acid from these trees counter acts that tell tale foul odor from smokes, any fish can detect that odor, remember their senses are acute.

hahaaa...you guys who don't know the first thing about 'Centre Pin' fishing are a bloody hoot!..just because someone can out fish your sorry asses, you think he is the a**hole, where as it is you.. who are soooo intelligent to voice ur opinions without any knowledge of the method or the guy using it....I sure would like any of you to step beside me while I'm using my Pin on the river and say something to me...some of you have met me and believe me, now that would really be a hoot...and as far as "unscented pink worms " are concern....you can't buy any in this province cause nobody is smart enough to import them and sell them...I use/have them, and I defy any of the boys to say I can't use them..
..that gentleman has taken a 28 1/2" brown at FC, with his method, [Czech nymphing]...what have you caught..hahaa..little 20" er's..yep this forum is a good laugh, all these wannabes who think they are so much better than everyone else, who like to spread the manure around after they go fishing..not saying everyone is like that ...but hell..if the shoe fits...wear it!
