  1. Is there any reason that center pin fishing seems to strictly practiced on salmon/steelhead streams (at least in North America, it seems). I imagine that the productivity gains of the longer drift would be just as much benefit on inland streams.

Does anyone here center pin on the bow?

  2. I had Sirius installed with my new Ford for 6 months but didn't bother to renew. Howard Stern grew pretty old after a while, the comedy channels were all re-runs after listening for a couple of hours, and the 'punk' station played too much hip hop.

I'd much rather have XM and listen to the hockey talk all day like Hawgstoppah. Didn't help him out much in the pool, though!

Satellite radio was nice for longer road trips and I'd buy an XM radio now but I'm waiting to see what happens with the merger. Apparently the merger between XM and Sirius doesn't necessarily affect their Canadian subsidiaries.

  3. If they want your car bad enough it doesn't matter if you have an immobilizer or alarm. There was a ring of car thieves not long ago that had a connection inside a dealership. They'd scope out the vehicle they wanted, write down the VIN, then get the guy at the dealership to order a key/fob for them. A rolling code scanner will bypass a car alarm within a minute or two. And really, when was the last time you gave a car alarm going off a second glance? Granted, if I was a car thief with access to that sort of thing I'd only be after big money vehicles, but you never know.

Yeah, but I bought a Ford. Nobody that sophisticated is going to steal a Ford!

  4. How old were these vehicles? Did they have engine immobilizers?

I just bought a new vehicle and just assumed that with an immobilizer I didn't need to worry about an alarm or any other deterrents. Do I have a false sense of security?

And Birchy...if you think this is bad you should try Vancouver. I had my trucke broken into three times in the 18 months I lived there. The only thing stolen was my radio but they did damage the lock such that I had to get in through the passenger seat.

I do hope they recover your Blazer and belongings. And if they nab the thieves I hope they throw the book at 'em.

  5. A few people have done it and apparently its not that difficult. However, the fishing is not done very easily from shore. You may find it almost impossible.

If you do hike in with the float tube keep an eye on your pack. Damn marmots gnawed through to my lunch. I did manage to fish successfully from shore too.

  6. Insurance was a huge issue for the shuttle service I use, they had to shutdown for a while until they found some that was reasonable. I don't know if all shuttles have the right insurance. They provide a pretty complete service and are heavily involved in the fly fishing community.

I've used a lot of different shuttles over the years, I think you would have to provide something pretty outstanding to compete.

I shuttle my own boat because of insurance concerns. I called my insurance company to ask what my liability was when the shuttle service is driving my vehicle and they told me that I'd still be liable for any claims. It's a pain in the ass to move the vehicles by yourself but the peace of mind was worth it for me. If someone can convince me otherwise that I'm not liable for any damage/injury when someone else is driving my vehicle then I'd certainly consider using a shuttle service again.

  7. Cool people I have met,

BB King, Buddy Guy,Iggy Pop , The Clash, Joey Ramone, The Hip ( not so cool ),Dead Kennedies, John Lydon, Roy Orbison, Headstones etc etc ....One of the nicest was Tom Russel...Most Interesting...David Suzuki....Perks of my job I guess

You met the Clash? Damn...the only band that mattered. How'd you meet 'em?

Last year I met Gretzky at a steakhouse in Chicago. This was after the trade deadline and he talked about a couple of deals the Coyotes were working on that didn't go down. Same night I also took a leak at the urinal next to Grant Fuhr. I didn't think it an appropriate place to introduce myself.

  9. Check if the orange light means the battery is expired - there's a set number of cycles for my Dell battery, and after that the battery will not charge back up and will have to be replaced.

The orange light on Toshiba laptops indicates that the battery is charging. When it turns green the battery is fully charged.

When this problem occurs, however, the orange light will always be on (if the laptop is powered off) but will never turn green because the battery is unable to charge.
