  1. I have a couple of the Ultralite DD series and have used them for 3 or 4 years now. Overall a great reel, only con is the click system. It has completely worn away on one of the reels. Unfortunately the design is integral with the frame so no replaceable pieces. Other than that a solid reel.
  2. Tough to choose between my Sage Z-axis 590 and Hardy Zenith 490
  3. I have a stack of approx 70 assorted FF mags in good condition dating back to 2009. Free with only stipulation you taken 'em all. I live in Somerset, SW Calgary. PM if interested.
  4. Thanks for the tip, would never have considered Michaels for lighting. I have been using a crappy tire halogen desk lamp and am getting tired of burning the back of my hand.
  5. I've been looking for a decent tying lamp for some time and not having much luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Under $50 preferably. Thanks stoby1
  6. I'm looking at buying a drift boat but have no space at home for storage and surprisingly the bitter half will not allow it in the driveway. What are my options in and around the city? Thanks for any advice stoby1
  7. I've been tying flies a couple of years now and can do a reasonable job of the standards i.e. pheasant tail, prince, paraduns, klinks, woolies etc. I now have a huge supply of these patterns. I think I'm ready to try something a bit more challenging. Does anyone have a couple of suggestions, preferably useful on the Bow. Cheers stoby1
  8. Thanks for the tips. I will definitely get a little more aggressive at the outset and keep a good bend in the rod. I'm not a complete stranger to some of the bigger Bow river fish, just the sheer power of this specimen blew me away.
  9. Had a run in with a large Bow river fish of unknown species this weekend and got beaten up pretty badly. I'm streamer fishing in mid-river with water at my waist. After the hookup the fish turned downstream and kept going at a strong and steady pace. The drag was set to what I believe was right for the 1X tippet. Anyway after more than half my backing was gone I increased the drag a couple of notches and next thing I know the hook pulls out. My question is should I have scambled to shore and tried to follow the fish downstream or is there some other technique is could have tried? Thanks for any insight
  10. I picked up a floating line (Airflo) a month ago and have used it half a dozen times. Noticed the front 6 feet or so are now sinking. I've cleaned the line but this doesn't seem to help. Is this common and what can I do to fix it? Thanks
