  1. Took my son and his friend down to the river. Before I could get them both set up the young fellow took a cast and buried a 4 inch long 5 of diamonds into my forearm. Of course back than fully barbed, never had any pliers so I just pulled it out.

Well you can imagine the antics of two young kids watching me pull that out of my arm, had to stretch the skin a good 8 inches before it would even start ripping through. Good times lol

  2. Not calling you out or anything but why don't you share with us your ties.

I'm sure we would all like to see your size 20 trude, as this is a tying thread why don't you share!!

Thanks and looking forward to your contribution.

Trouble with the internet is sometimes people take things the wrong way. Bro in no way am I criticizing your flies , simply sharing what worked for me the other day.

  3. So I noticed my first risers out here near Rocky. I was fishing a certain pool that had no action a previous night, when all of a sudden I heard a splash. Instantly as I look I see two risers at once. So instantly I swapped spools and tie on a size 12 stimi. Not one take.

I came home and started working on a small winter stone dry pattern.

After numerous prototypes I came up with this...

    75CA9796-BE8B-4A7E-BE97-EE6C840C99C2-977

    Trying these guys out tomorrow.

Seems a little big for winter stones try a size 20 black trude type fly, also give the fly a tiny bit of movement. Worked for me on friday. Good luck bro

  4. As soon as a seen that picture I thought that fish is dead, but it wasn't the eyes. The color of the fish is off. I know for a fact that the eyes thing is total myth. I've got lots of shots of Alberta browns some are looking down some aren't. All of them are alive and none of them where over fatigued.

Anyways awesome fish bro, unfortunate indeed.

  5. You sure do find some fine looking fish and spots Rick. Good on you for exploring and finding a new jem. I hope no one finds it as well, unless they put the effort into looking for it themselves.

Great pictures, sure looks like it was cold out, and lots of snow in those mountains already. Hope you guys brought some fireball to keep ya warm.

I agree 100%. Not about not finding it .But finding it for yourself.

  6. Agree about the Livingstone, took the motorhome down there about 3 weeks ago. Ended up camping in a war zone it seems. It was non-stop rifle and shotguns going off almost all day and night. I was out in west central Alberta late Sunday night and did a drive around all the random camping spots after they had all headed in. I have to say I was pretty impressed that they where really clean and no garbage around. I guess some people have figured out that they just might be camping in these same spots 25 years from now.

  7. What do you guys do when you go to one of your favorite spots and there's quadders running up and down the river?

So me and the wife are rigging up one of the guys riding quads says "Oh your going fishing. well don't get run over. So I tell him there's no quads allowed where am going. So there's six quads that head down to the river before us, four of them proceed to run right down the middle of the river headed downstream. well am still up top of the canyon watching them but cant really catch them to say anything. We head down and are going to fIsh upstream we round the first corner and heres 2 quadders rigging up to fish.

They ask me how far are you going upstream, I say "well alot farther than you than proceed to tell them they aren't allowed to quad down here and they know it. Anyways I wasn't to nice and told them I have a picture of your plates and if I see you past this point all see you in court.

Just pisses me off to know end that people have to make me be a prick and I am. why should I mince words when your forcing my hand. yes one day four young fellows might pound the piss out of me or trash my truck. Don't really care not going to sit back and watch this place get trashed too.

  8. Hey, if you're looking for someone to blame for the (supposed?) lack of BRTR in the RDR, you may want to look to the poster above me. A decade (plus?) of catching the same fish over and over week in week out. Sorry to pick your ass Dave (and I know it's not as black and white as that but I'm using you to make my point), but even you have to admit that multiple recaptures of the same fish is going to impede and delay maturation resulting in lower fecundity and increased time between spawnings. Less eggs and longer peiods between them = less fish abundance. I'm not all that unhappy to hear the BRTR are getting whupped by the native system. Like they said in jurassic park, nature finds a way!

    And don't call me bro.

So I take it your not the same PGK that use to ride with Satan's Choice back in the mid 80's . Sorry my mistake.

Well thing is in the Red Deer directly below the dam and down to Red Deer itself the natives aren't doing any better than the browns. Nature doesn't find a way when the water quality starts getting contaminated. Like I said no Pike in 3 years. whitefish almost gone, Very few walleye compared to years past. Haven't caught a mooneye or seen one sculpin in the Red Deer in years.

Red Deer use to be great for sculpins but there gone, have been for years. So ya lots of goldeye if that's your thing.

  9. Isn't this all a moot point? From what I've heard, enforcement of any kind will soon be a thing of the past, so who's going to issue these steeper fines? No revenue from fines means no funding for the Red Deer River Pilot Project.

I'm usually a pretty law-abiding guy, but I'm starting to think if we want better enforcement, we'll have to do it ourselves. Old school.

Honestly though, how many people really believe that nearly half of all anglers are poaching? Or have I misunderstood the website?

Well if all of us stop bending over and taking it up you no where, maybe things will change. Maybe it isn't half of all anglers. its still affects us all no matter what the % is.

When I was a kid I could go to the Red Deer River with 5 friends, line up 10 feet apart and catch fish all day. Now I can float from the dam to Innisfail and not catch anything. I've caught pike up to 27 pounds in the Red Deer, a 10 pound 11 ounce rainbow, browns over 10 pounds

Still get the big browns once in awhile but no one in my boat has caught a pike in about 3 years in that section. The river needs help, so sign the petition plz and thank you

  10. I worked seven years of night shifts alone so I got in the habit of searching the skies. One night at 3 in the morning I was looking up and these 2 lights just appeared out of nowhere. In the first few 10ths of a second I was thinking "cool 2 satellites side by side". I've seen thousands of satellites but these lights where skipping and bouncing, you could see that they had just entered earths atmosphere. They stayed exactly side by side, not very far apart, and flew out West of me. Moving basically straight but just strange enough that you knew it wasn't something normal.

They stopped moving away from me and started moving just like MrWilloughby says. But one light would zip out north and the other south then they would zip back together. Sometimes doing mirrored movements of each other, sometimes not. But never once did they cross paths or even go over that central meeting point. Sat there for about a half an hour watching this, then both lights just took off disappearing almost instantly in a burst of speed.

Even after seeing that I was thinking more along the lines of experimental military craft than aliens. About a month later I was watching a show on Area -51 and they showed about 3 videos of lights people had filmed around that base. The forth one made my jaw drop, it was only one light in the sky but it moved exactly the same.

Reverse engineered alien aircraft flown by humans is my story and am sticking to it.
