  1. My top 5 baits for the bow:

    1. Trout fry. My fav is upper highwood and oldman. Before I get flamed, relax, if there aren't any spots on the dorsal I throw'em back.

    2. Brown trout roe. Hit the Bow redds in the late Oct. This time of the year is money. I like to stick them in pickle jars for the year.

    3. Dewies! The bigger the better. Much better than a wire wrapped SJW. Gotta leave the barbs on to keep the bastards on your hook though.

    4. Smoked Oysters from Safeway. Rig up a couple rods with pickerel rigs stuffed with oysters and lob them into middle of the river. Keep an extra tin for a snack while watching your set ups.

    5. Corn. Trout love the corn.

  2. Here's my stab at this one. A modification to a similar pattern I use only I added some hackle for a wet fly presentation. You could weight this fly, but I chose not. Actually managed to use 4 different species.

    Materials:

    Hook: Your choice #12-18 (I chose a #14 Daiichi 1710)

    Thread: 8/0 dark brown

    Rib: Fine copper wire

    Tail and back: pheasant tail

Abdomen: Turkey tail (I like to use the dark portion near the tip)

    Wingcase: pheasant tail

    Thorax: peacock herl

    Hackle: partidge

  3. While it is important to evaulate this from the protection side, Taco does bring up a relevant and significant point. Sun, I might be able to share some reports, but will have to check first. I have spent significant time on mitigating impacts to the local streams in the elk valley at all 5 mines. Specifically, my role was to ensure the streams and rivers were not being contaminated with anything detrimental to the trout population. There's a lot that goes into it. While some debates can be made for the overall impact to the land, I can ensure you from first hand experience that the trout populations have not been noticeably impacted.

When an issue comes up, the mine itself will contact me immediatley looking for assistance. We then work along side the BC government to ensure the correct actions are used.

I can also tell you that there is some very good fishing right next to these mines, which supports that they are doing something right.

  4. Funny.

I know this fisherman who knows exactly where a particular fish lives as the fish does not try hard to conceal himself. The fisherman has tried to catch this fish many times in the past, with limited success. As time has gone on, the fish has learned to recognize this particular fisherman and while he may rise to the fisherman's presentations from time to time for the fun of it, particularly ones he finds unique, he has learned to mostly ignore him and he'll go away.

That's because he should be using a SJW (the fly, not the moderator). No one can resist the attractivness of the SJW (the fly, not the moderator).

  5. This is about power. Harper made a very bad call. But it's a bit ironic that he is trying to change the "system as it is designed", gets crucified by the opposition. Imagine, if he tried to change the very practice with which the coalition is acting upon? I’m guessing the same result. Fundamentally, how can anyone who believes in democracy, party representative or otherwise go for this? Whether the practice is place do this or not, I just don't buy it, but clearly 3 party leaders do. 38% apparently means nothing in political realm, but I would give my left nut to own 38% of Microsoft. A bit of an exaggeration, but the fact that there are more than 2 parties, 38% is enough of a share to rule the roost.

While the timing of Harper’s funding cuts is poor, it is of even greater consequence that the coalition try to act now. Yeah, this is not good for Alberta, but it is not good for any part of Canada. That’s what I care about. So why should I be paying for a party that wants to take my belongings and start up their own family?

  7. My bro is a cop. In training, he volunteered to get tazered. Long story, but the electrodes (or whatever they are) broke off in his spine. Had a free trip in the ambulance.

If you look at all the incidents, I think the actual manufacturer should be held more accountable for this product than the cops using them. It's a brutal job that is getting more and more difficult. You couldn't pay me enough money to be one, so to judge them is pretty difficult. Some people in general are jerks, but don't diss cops.

By the way, my brother said the tazer incident was still WAAAAY better than getting hit with pepper spray.

Birchy, I don't she was sleeping. Must have been reaching for something on the floor.....
