  1. None on the G2, but I have several G's and one is a 4 wt. I love these rods for dry fly fishing. They are smooth and present beautifully and softly. However, they are not slow and have a good ability to throw line nearly as far as a faster action rod, but with the ability to present soft and short. Lots of but strength for trout fishing. The only instances where a faster action rod would help is if you had strong wind or were throwing streamers. But, that's not what you get a 4 wt G2 for anyway. Can't say enough about the G's. If you like a slower action rod in these situations, then I'm sure you's love the G2. Cheers, Mark
  2. What?!?! CBC made a mistake I'm shocked. Yes, CBC 'wisely' thought they were negotiating in a vacuum for an asset they built with our hard earned money. Surely it was totally unforeseeable that CTV (owning TSN) would have wanted to pick it up, given the 'very secretive' move by TSN to lock up a 6 year deal with the NHL to carry a significant number of NHL games, particularly with at least 1 Canadian team for each of their Wednesday night games. Absolutely shocking. Don't get me wrong, it's not the end of the world for HNIC, but it was a dumb move and the rights to the song should have been negotiated and locked up with the rights holder a long time ago so as not to get in this predicament. Enough said. So how about them Azzurri? Cheers, Mark
  3. "A sticker covering your tattoo of the name of your last girlfriend does not cut it! Even if it is a Fly Fish Calgary sticker!"
  4. Between this Board, other Boards, online clearouts and the local fly shops, you've got to be able to find a nice used/demo reel that will be in around your price range. With all the gear being turned over, there has to be something out there that will fit your needs and budget. One half of my reels and all of my rods have either come from Boards, clearouts at local fly shops, online clearance shops (ie. Sierra Trading Post) or tradenstuff. You really don't need to pay full retail if you are prepared to spend a little research time. Good luck either way. Cheers, Mark
  5. As well, if it's a "$25.00 handling fee", why is it, as they say, "per rod section"? Shouldn't a second rod section be less or zero? Unless it's really just a replacement section cost and then, just call it that. Just my 2c. Cheers, Mark
  6. All I know is my experience. My brother had an old pair of the locally made ones that developed a boot leak in one foot after about 4 years of 10-15 day a year use. No complaints and Springbrook replaced them (excellent service) with new ones. But, the new ones were noticeably stiffer and developed a seam leak in the leg within less than 6 uses. He sent them in and Springbrook repaired them, but the leak persisted. He bought a new pair of the Reddington CPS, more supple and, after 1 year of use, no leaks. It's just one person's experience. BTW, I still fish in my old Wardell hybrid breathable/neoprene bootfoots for winter steelhead. Good luck. Cheers, Mark
  7. So, let me get this straight. People are free to have children and screw them up in anyway they want without any manner of education or license required but, if you want to fish - clearly an undertaking of much greater importance - you need not only to take a course and seek a license, but need to kill any fish you catch so as not to contaminate their environment and not to cruelly let them live after having been hooked. Hmmm ... Glad there are such great thinkers out there in government doing this big thinking for us, or at least at this stage for the Swiss. Cheers, Mark
  8. This may be too late now, but I've recently been doing a bit of wader shopping. I ruled out anything over $350 because I just don't see the reason to spend that much when there are plenty of waders available for under $350 that have solid reputations. I looked at Grey's GRX, Guideline Techstretch, Reddington CPS, Patagonia Watermaster II's and William Joseph V2's. I ended up getting the Guideline Techstretch (and so far love them) because they fit the best for me, tall and thin. As well, I think these are damn close to equal, if not equal, to the Simms G3's and more supple. These are sweet waders. However, I would have purchased any of these waders based on my research. Depending upon where you are, any of them can be found on sale somewhere. I still have a pair of older Wardell's as did my brother, but found the material to be a bit on the rigid side. As well, I understand that the newer ones are not made locally, but offshore and have had some leaking problems. I also still have an older pair of Bare lightweight travel waders that are not very breathable, but have lasted for years. BTW, I fish about 12-15 days per year. Those are my two bits. Cheers, Mark
  9. If you do have to make a backcast, to open the loop, try dropping the rod tip a bit. This should help to keep the loop open when the road loads. Cheers, Mark
