  1. There are supposedly both in the Omineca. Only way to tell the true difference is by counting branchiostegal rays. Bulls have 19-24 and Dolly Varden 24-27.

Nice fish, looks like the Holmes?

  2. I've seen pike running rapids... same place I saw steelhead, chinooks, SM+LM bass, and panfish.

The pike were moving up the creek from boulder to boulder resting in the pocket behind the rock.

They aren't the weak warmwater fish everyone thinks they are, that's for sure.

The fish in that pic is huuuuge! That would beat hooking a 20" trout all to hell!!

  3. Happened to me this spring in a huge baetis hatch. After about 20 casts, I finally timed it right and caught the one fish I wanted, 21" rainbow. The only reason I got him (no hatch matcher), was because I put a big fat juicy stimulator within a half inch of his head.

Actually, twice. A big brown was rising near the shore on a stocked lake, and I put a #18 adams right beside his next obvious meal (a big drowned dragonfly). I hooked him, then lost him. Fairplay? Probably not.

I think the best option is just to put it as close to their feeding lane as possible.

  4. Awesome.

My 5wt St Croix has seen six years of hard use on everything from pink and chum salmon on the coast to bull trout and cutties in mountain streams to monster triploid rainbows in the Cariboo and Alberta brown trout streams, and she's never come close to failing.

The only downside to St Croix rods is that they stopped with their unlimited lifetime warranty afew years ago. I'll never understand that move.
