alhuger Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 i was wondering if any of you guys have had any luck with scud patterns on the bow? are shrimp in abundance or will the trout just ignore them? thanx I have caught with weighted scuds on the bow they are my substitute for not having czech nymphs. I am not sure if they are resident in the river or not. Quote
Brownstone Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 there are a population of freshwater shrimp in the Bow . not as abundant as mayflies caddis and such but defiantly a food source, all the ones Ive seen are light in color, tan to transparent. Quote
Castuserraticus Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 In early May a few years ago I rolled rocks after having no success. There were hordes of olive scuds. I switched to an olive flashback GRHE and hit 6 fish in the next hour - one was my largest trout ever. It would seem sometimes they are the most abundant food. Quote
maxwell Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 there are some sucd populations in teh bow.. mostly living in the inside bends, large back eddies, above weirs etc........ i ahve had some success with them from time too time... some places can be deadly fishin scuds in the early summer but i havnt really targeted them all the time nor is it a go too fly of mine. Thanks for the help guys i will definately try some scud patterns on my next outing as part of my triple rig! i just really want to experiment with some different patterns. its always neat to hook a few trout on some not so fished flies.
