Kamikaze
HI everybody, I thought I should ask you for fly recommendation for catching a stocked trout in southern Alberta. I usually river fish and don't have any experience on still water fishing. Any suggestion on what flies to use this weekend?
trailhead
The most popular fly on the stocked lakes in southern Alberta is the pink marshmallow. No I'm just kidding, a leech fished under an indicator or slowly trolled is usually effective, try black, brown, olive, chartreuse. Dries work in the evenings and mornings, an Adams will do the job well. Or try a small nymph, or scud pattern fished like a leech.
Guest RedWiggler
I find that a Black/Red Leech works really well on still water.
rehsifylf
On the Bullshead - I've always had tremendous results with a purple or burgandy marabou leach (but purple seems to work best). Never seemed to have much luck on other rainbows, but worked well there.
