Hawgstoppah Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I will be in Seward, Alaska on June 30th unloading a log home. On July 1st.and possibly a few more days after..... I am free. Anybody know what's kickin and can make some reccomemdations? My preference would be king salmon, but I'll be happy with whatever action is hot. I will be travveling through Anchorage to get to seward, it's out on the Kenai penninsula Need some contacts up there as soon as possible, I leave on the 23rd. thanks a ton! Quote

Pipes Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I am out of contacts up there. It's been 5 years. Had a great guide out Kenai/Soldotna who was a school teacher, but he no longer guides. I would suggest finding a guide in that area for kings, as they are within a mile or so of the ocean and the fish are traditionally bigger on the Kenai. It's a good place to target them. Your timing is very good for the larger kings and you can do some great fishing for sockeye at that time on your own, both on the Kenai and Russian river. If you're bringing your own gear for sockeyes and trout, I suggest min. 8 wt. I destroyed a reel on sockeyes. Some really decent rainbows that people treat like suckers. My first fish I caught on the Russian was a 25" bow and people couldn't believe I bothered trying to land it. I will see if I can dig up some more contacts. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted June 14, 2008 Author Posted June 14, 2008 Pipes you made my day. Yeah I'll be within an easy drive of Soldotna... matter of fact... I just learned we got another house going up there for late July Man my summer's gonna suck Quote
onthefly7 Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 I went to seward last summer and hit the kenai. it is awesome Quote
gravelman Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Take a halibut charter out of seward i know its not fly fishing but it is one of the most incredible catches. I havent been there in 10 years but if i remember correctly the kenai river borders the highway at some point from anchorage to seward and you can fish it right there. Quote
