johnbransfield Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 I was wondering if theres any good fly fishing down there this time of the year relativly close to the border?? Anything close to eureka or whitefish?? Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I see lots of people on the Missouri River west of great falls (near Craig, MT) every time I go by... so it's gotta be open to fishing and from what I hear, a VERY productive fishery. It's about Bow River sized. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Oh, for something closer to whitefish, you might try the river that goes thru Colombia Falls, MT. Sorry I can't remember what it's called BUT... every time I cross the bridge into Colombia Falls on highway US#2 , there's usually people fishing from the bridge. Trolling some sorta stuff in the current from the bridge. My boss says there fishing for whites there, but that the river has a lotta trout too. Quote
Hawgstoppah Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 And... that's gotta be still open as well... I was last thru about a month ago and sure enough, people were out in -5C temps to fish there... Quote
johnbransfield Posted January 20, 2008 Author Posted January 20, 2008 Thanks for the info, i have heard good things about the missouri, so i might have to check it out.... Quote
bloom Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 The river Hawgstopper is talking about is the Flathead. There's 3 forks further up, with some good fishing. Never fished it in winter, but do some searching on the net for fly shops in Whitefish...they'll help you out. Quote
johnbransfield Posted January 20, 2008 Author Posted January 20, 2008 Been looking around and i think were going to go a little farther south, fish big spring creek and the missouri. Anyone here fished either of those rivers?? I hear big spring is quite impressive Quote
