OneMoreLastCast Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Flames just announced that Mike Keenan will be the new head coach. I personally like it, but I'm sure others won't. As long as Playfair is no longer behind the bench I think it is a positive. Quote
EvilWeevil Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 hhhhhhhmmmm I think I like it !!! they need someone who can take charge I don't think Jim Playfair was a bad coach as far as knowing the plays and all that ,I just think the flames really needed someone with a stronger personality behind the bench, someone who can get the players attention like sutter did hopefully keenan can do that ! cheeler Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Great move, the team wouldn't build on anything next season if they still hated the coach. Quote
OneMoreLastCast Posted June 14, 2007 Author Posted June 14, 2007 Plus, Keenan has no ties to Sutter and the organization like Playfair did. So if it's not working out, they can, and will fire him. Keenan would be okay with getting fired since he's gone through it so many times in the past. As long as he's not GM and just coaching, he should be pretty good. Huselius might be in trouble though. Word has it him and Keenan didn't get along in the past. Quote
regdunlop Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Any player that is lazy and doesn't want to work their $&@*'s off in practice and in games won't stand a chance with Keenan. Quote
DougC Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 I think Playfair was a great assistant, but he left a little to be desired as a head coach. He was a little too stubborn with his game plans, especially in the playoffs - his answer to getting outshot 5-1 is to just sit back and continue to do the same thing??? Stick to the system game after game when it's clearly not working? I also got a little tired of his constant line juggling. I wish him the best and hopefully he has learned from last season. Not sure Iron Mike is the right guy though. If he sticks to coaching it should be a great fit, I just hope he does not get into a power struggle with Sutter. Time will tell I guess. Quote
Kale Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Ya ........ BUT IT IS STILL THE FLAMES....... wether it be Playfair or Keenan the Flames are still the Flames. BOO GO OILERS GO Quote
grannyknot Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Boo to that. Have fun "rebuilding", Oilers fans! Playfair is a mediocre coach, I'm glad the Flames have a mean SOB on the bench who won't put up with slackers. Quote
Highlander Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 We'll see how you like it when he brings in a new captain and trades Iginla. When the Flames come to Vancouver, watch what a nice reception he gets. Give him six months and then see how much you love him. Quote
