Guest bigbadbrent
Used to tie for a while there (probably 1000 flies or so) with curved (pupa) hooks, but now im back to tying straight shank ones (mustads 3906, mostly) as i can get them cheaper, and without having to go out of my way.. What are everyones opinions on curved hooks and solid hookups/landings
Flytyer
I use curved hooks mainly as an emerger hook; the 3906 and 3906B are great standard nymph hooks. It's the gape that affects your hookups most I believe and the 3906 is a round bend and has a decent gap in it's gape. Limerick bends I would stay away from as they seem to be narrower in the gape. Brownstone
I use alot of scud/pupa hooks for the nymphs i tie, and buy quite a few nymphs tied on straight shank hooks online..don;t notice a difference in performance at all .. my opinon - 6 in one, half a dozen in another..
