Bull Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 HI, My name is J.R. and I'm a Ebay and newby fly fishing addict. Probably should have asked this question before i bid but found the item with minutes left. I got a new 4/5/6 Okuma air frame reel on ebay for $28 Canadian shipping included. Looking for some feed back on the reel. My intentions were to use it for a back up reel. Does anyone have one , are they any good, would it make a reliable 1st reel, etc? Thanks, Off to Ebay , Canadian almost at par i can't stop buying and the wife isn't home. Quote
esleech Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 I'd say it is a pretty good reel. Large arbor for fast line pick-ups, and okumas are quite reliable. It is an entry level reel though, so don't be suprised if it doesn't last ten years. Quote
lonefisher Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 dont use it in super cold weather or drop it to much..... plastics a little brittle..... took me a month to break a reel seat tab off of mine. Good reel for the low price good drag just not bullet proof...... Quote
bugaboo Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 As the others said, great entry level reel. The drag works very well and it is super light weight. I use mine for backpacking with a TFO 4 wt 4 piece rod. I also would not want to drop it when it is cold out as it may get brittle. Used it at a private stocked dam the other day and landed half a dozen 5 to 7 pound rainbows. Took the line to the backing several times and not one hiccup with the reel. 28 bucks is a good deal... I paid 55 for mine 6 months ago... Quote
grannyknot Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 I use one as my main reel, no complaints at all. Keep the discs clean and you shouldn't have any problems. Quote
