After a previous trip and a couple of 5wts breaking I'm glad I had a backup. Especially with a turn around period of about 7 weeks to get my rod there and back.

And the last thing I also want is to be out for a day somewhere or a weekend trip and my only rod breaks and I'm done.

Well, now I'm thinking of doing the same for my 9wt rod. I have a complete setup a 9' 4 piece TFO BVK with two reels. One with floating line and one with 24" sink tip. So I don't want to go with a different weight of rod for the back up.

I'm thinking of almost a switch rod possibly but I don't want to spend a fortune on it.

Some input would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

what sort of budget are you looking to spend? one man's "fortune" might be anothers entry level rod. :)

I'd go with a St. Croix Legend Ultra, really good rods esp in the heavier sticks as they are pretty lightweight and won't wear ya out as fast.
