marcvansluys Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I just bought a couple of these flies, from Highwood House actually (I never thought I would buy flies from a gas station, but these are surprisingly well tied). I just love the look of 'em, but they seem like a real pain to tie. Does anybody ever fish with them? Seems to me they would work really well as a searching pattern on some mountain streams... I've also heard they work better the more beat up they get. I would love to see a picture of a really chewed up one. Quote
zed Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 they work great at dusk on a lake where there is caddis activity. Quote
softhackle Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I have used them everywhere including the bow. Great searcher fly. Quote
softhackle Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 I will also add that when you tie the deer hair down, and fish with a steady strip they are a deadly travelling sedge emerger pattern. Slammed them at chief hector one fine evening. Tie them with an orange thread and they are very effective on cutthroat dry style. Only downfall is they get chewed up easily by trout teeth. Quote
marcvansluys Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 I'm sure they start to look really gnarly after a few hits. Quote
Flash Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I'm sure they start to look really gnarly after a few hits. They certainly do and that's when they become truely deadly! Quote
