bradu Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Hi All, I'm looking for a lighter weight set up for smaller streams to compliment my 6wt. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with either the Pieroway Element 8'6" 4wt or the St. Croix Imperial 8'6" 4wt? I've heard great things about both of these rods, just not sure which way to go. Also looking at the Admunson TXS G2 for a reel, anyone have one? Good, bad? Any suggestions for a decent small stream, floating 4wt line would be appreciated as well. Cheers, Brad Quote
ÜberFly Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 St. Croix hands down! And get a better reel then the Admunson (Hardy Ultra Light or Orvis - or just about anything else!!!!!!) Rio Trout LT or SA Trout but only if the rod is medium or medium/fast action. Otherwise go with Rio Gold or SA GPX. Of course these are only MY opinions!! P Quote
Foothills86 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Imperial all day long, the Dickerson taper is one of the best out there. I had the same rod in a 5wt and loved it Quote
Sean84 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 I have the 4wt st croix and love it. It has a guidleines reel which I dont love as much as the rod but the rod is exactly what I was looking for in a lighter weight rod. I also happen to have that reel although on a 6wt and like it better then my guidelines one. Quote
bradu Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Seems the Imperial is a well liked/favored rod, should be a safe bet Guess the only question is what reel (and line) to pair it with? I'm trying to stay around $350 for the complete rig so any suggestions are welcomed. I'm also open to shopping around for a used 4wt reel to try to save a buck or two. Quote
