Too Soon For Pike?

Recently watched A Backyard in Nowhere, now a buddy and I are itching to try our hand at some pike fishing.

 

Just wondering if it is still too soon for the slough sharks, I know they move into the shallows when the water temp is optimal.

 

Not sure where we are going to head to: we both have pontoons so we don't want to big of a lake so MacGregor is out.

 

Thinking Badger, PCR, or maybe that one up by Beaver (Burnt Timber I think).

Lots of lakes still closed until May 7th. Just make sure and check before heading out. Lots of fun on a fly rod though. Make sure you let us know how you made out.

Should be good now and the fishing will pick up through May. The ideal will be when the water temperatures hit the low to mid 50s and the fish enter their post spawn mode. I'd say Badger is your best bett out of the places you mentioned, I've seen on google maps that it has a lot of nice bays. I've got a spot I've heard is really good and I've seen a few big pike pulled out of, if you want to meet up and head out there send me a pm.

 

Also, see if you can still get a copy of Barry Reynolds' book "Mastering Pike on the Fly, Strategies and Techniques". I have it and there's a ton of good info in it.

target the dark bottom bays and bays that receive more light then others! And bring flies that push alot of water! Cant wait till may 21st topwater pike fishing!
