miked Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Hi everyone, been a member on this board for a while but only recently been cecking it out. I am from the Sault STe Marie area of Ontario, however I travel a lot for work and spend more time away from home then home. Currently working in Regina which allows me to attend the fly fishing show in Calgary seeing as its only an 8 hour or so drive. My first question is, what is the show usually like for being able to purchase tying materials? Are the local shops usually also open during the show? I plan on being at the show quite likely for all 3 days, need to look into the seminars I want to take in. My next question, I am planning on taking about a 1 month or so road trip in Alberta this summer. A good chunk of that time will likely be spent in the Calgary/ southern stretches of the province as I have family in Calgary. But I am also thinking of spending some time in the north of the province. Mainly looking for some must have flies for fishing the province. Also any other info regarding places to fish and such would be hugely apreciated. Also looking for any help on recomended reading/research material regarding fly fishing in Alberta. Thanks ahead for any help. I'll be sure to pop by the booth while at the show and maybe run into some of you there. Mike Quote
Jayhad Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 There will be several shops retailing at the show with a huge host of tying materials, some shops close for the show some stay open, depends on their staffing. Take the questions you have here and present them to the shop rats and take notes you'll be given the info you require. Here's some good info on flys: http://www.bowriver.com/flies.php Quote
miked Posted January 13, 2012 Author Posted January 13, 2012 Thanks for the reply! Info is one of the main reasons I am going to the show. That on top of the fact I have wanted to attend for years, but its a long trip from Ontario! Thanks Mike Quote
