Guest bigbadbrent Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 Tied these up for a local pond, going to give them a shot later on the bow when i get a chance to get out Sinking Boatmen: Size 12 pupa hook Black Beadhead Underwrap with lead Backing: small strip of brown foam covered in Brown stretch flex Legs: Zebra legs, small brown Body: Peacock Ice dub Very easy tie, and works extremely well Floating boatmen Size 12 pupa hook No beadhead or underwrap backing: Deer hair covered in foam with brown stretch flex over top legs: zebra legs, small brown body: Peacock Ice dub I fish these two together, putting the sinking one as my first fly, then putting 3 feet of tippet from it's shank too the floating one. This will give it the image of bobbing in the water. I retrieve with small erratic strips..works to great success on ponds and lakes, will have to try them on the bow..should work well on the swing Quote
EdB Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 Ya..i was going to ask from reading the other posts about boatmen do you want a floating or a sinking? I guess you can do both at the same time. Should i be fishing those in deep water, shallow, close to shore. Also are they just called boatmen at the fly shops or is there another name? Quote
hydropsyche Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 Those look really good, Brent. You should try tying a few up with the legs facing *forward* ala Jenings Ultimate Boatman. Its give it more action when stripping. Quote
Guest bigbadbrent Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 totally shoulda thought of that ahahha Quote
kungfool Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Really love the boatman patterns Brent. Thanks for sharing! Quote
admin Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 I love the beadhead. It looks like a sweet pattern. It would slay them out at Muir this time of year. Quote
