Well I won't say how long it took, or how many restarts a had. But fly #1 is done, and while it's not going to win any beauty contests I think it's 'fishable'. Had a couple issues figuring out how to prep hackle and marabou, the finish on the wire wrap isnt as neat as I'd like it.... Suggestions or comments welcome!

Hey everyone! I'm pretty pumped to have found this forum, it looks like an awesome resource. I moved to Calgary a little over a year ago, and just this spring decided to get hard into fly-fishing after I got my tax return back. I've been fishing bass on gear my whole life, and did some fly fishing growing up out east. Again, mostly for bass. After living in Toronto for a long time, having a world class trout river 5 blocks away from my apartment is pretty awesome. I've got the bug. For the last month I've been scouting the river and have gone out about half a dozen times and have yet to land a trout. No worries, I'm patient, and I understand that the Bow is a hard place to learn the craft. I've fired off an e-mail to register for the McLennan's "Befriend the Bow" course, which I have been recommended a couple times. The course doesn't happen until August, so I'm looking for additional resources assist in breaking my frustrating, albiet short, curse. Does anyone have any pointers? Maybe books, videos, etc.? I'm not looking for anyone's secret fishing holes - putting in the miles is part of the deal. Adjusting my fishing times is first on my list as I've mostly gone after getting off of work, 5pm - 8:30pm. Do the trout tend to feed more earlier in the morning/late at night? Are people mostly fishing streamers this time of year? It seems a bit high and dirty for dry flies, but I could be way off base. Regardless, any help would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hey I received a 5/6 wt 12'6" spey rod for Christmas from my wonderful fiance which I plan on using on the Bow with big flies (mainly wet) but I still need to get line(s) and a reel. I've read many articles, posts and watched plenty of videos but I'm still a little confused/overwhelmed. Can someone recommend me a store to go to that stocks what I need with staff that can educate me/sell me stuff? I've seen Fish Tales mentioned a few times while searching this site, are they my best bet? Bonus Question: I've been told to go with a Skagit line. Good idea? Bad idea? Rio? Airflo? Thanks!

Hi guys: Well, like the topic title says, looking for some recommendations on books about saltwater flyfishing. My preference would be to start with an all-round, general, primer / introduction. Looking for the saltwater equivalent of Barry's "Trout Highway" book, or Jim's "Trout Stream's of AB", or Clive's very decent all-round read. But by all means, you if can think have a must-have that specifically addresses a specific topic like fishing for bonefish, or tarpon, or "where to", or flies / fly tying, I'll take those recommendations too. Anyways, you get the idea; have at 'er! Cheers in advance, Smitty
