I love spey flies, ever do any dee flies?
As for Spey flies, I don't think there is enough bronze mallard in the world for me to get that wing right.
And I have only ever tied one Dee style, but intend to play with them more this year

Ya don't need much more than a 5/6 weight hell I have used my 5 weight for coho on the coast
-
I use a scandi on my 5 weight skagit on my 6 weight, backed up with Rio Grip Shooter running line.
I have found that scandi works better for me on 5 weight and down.
Personal choice
-
I recognize that tying, awesome as usual
-
Well done M8 nice to see you here and your flies as well
So where's your flee's oldtimer, ya forget how to use your camera
-
I might tie this as a hair wing and let my son try it out where he lives
will work well as a hair wing, where does your son live
-
Have you tried it yet? Looks like it should work well
yes i have, steelhead like it and so do most salmon species
-
My guess that pink and blue would work well too
most deffinately

Thank Its a Jim Missuri pattern I tricked out for west coast winter steelhead, works well
If you tie it in burnt orange or olive or even hot orange will work well for summer run steelhead
-
Thanks, and yes it does work
3Wt Reel?
in Ask the Pros
Posted
Age old question $100.00 for a reel or $500.00, they both hold line, click and pawl or disc drag.
When it comes down to it it's personal choice and what you can afford. I could go out and buy high end reels if I wanted
but to me they just hold line, and the fish don't care. I have had a flyrod in my hand since I was 6 and have never spent mor than 150 on a reel.
And not because i'm cheap, because I find no need to.
My Opinion
